96 Neon issue.

Up untill recently the car has been working PERFECTLY.

But now when you insert the key,the fuel gauge reads empty and the gas light comes on,and when you try to crank the engine over,it just keeps cranking.

Keep in mind this isn't my personal vehicle.....

Also, when if you bang on the fuel tank and wait about 10-20 minutes,it will start right up and run for awhile.

We just replaced the fuel pump with an oem unit today thinking that was the issue, but it still persits.

Now i don't know shit when it comes to dodges so i was hoping someone in here has had the same problem or knows what it could be.

All help is appreciated.

Sounds like an electrical issue. Maybe a bad connection to the pump?

Unlikely, but possibly a loose/broken baffle in the tank that blocks flow?
I would vote for wiring issue, but ^^ is always a possibility.
