What are you trying to do with it? Road Race, Drag Race, Both? If you plan on making a drag car the auto tranny is going to be a good idea if you want to get a turbo on it and just floor it. If you want a road race car then the control over the car with a manual tranny is a better idea.

i would swap it, i started modding mydohc atx and it was still slow as hell i was going to do a tranny swap but ended up buying a acr. and if you can get an acr tranny because the ending gear ratio is quicker than a base one

Yes, it's worth the swap. I've done them myself and I can honestly say you can get it done in a weekend. Nothing too hard about it, just a bitch to get the clutch pedal in (tight space). Look at Neons.org - The best neon site on the net! there's plenty of atx to mtx swap info on there.

They say it's usually around $300 for all the parts. ECU, axles, transmission, clutch, throw-out bearing, k-member, shift cables, shifter, clutch pedal.

While you're at it go ahead & put a new clutch, new throw-out bearing, booger shift bushings and a short shifter in there.

Yeah, check out the tranny first as some are 3.55 final drive and others are 3.94. You want 3.94 for faster acceleration and the 3.55 if you are turboed and having traction issues and want a higher top speed.

The 3.55's also get better gas mileage on the highway. I'm popping in and out of v-tec at 70mph in 5th gear
