My busted Tranny

So after leaving the gas station putting 35 $'s in gas in the skittle freshly washed with its newly painted rims i'm cruising to a friends house . I slowly megre onto the intrestate going through the gears , I try to put it in third release the clutch and it free revs like its out of gear . No biggie I figure I just didnt depress the clutch all the way or maybe didnt fully engadge the gear . It goes into 4th fine no worries .

I fully merge onto the interstate and go to put it in 5th . It goes up and over but not up again . I'm like hmmm . put it back in 4th , fine accelerates smoothly no problems . Try 5th again , no go .. I put it into 3rd to try and slow it down and get over to the side goes into 3rd fine I release the clutch and give it gas and it free revs again ... Uh oh , wont go into 3rd and neutral is also 4th gear .

I get off at Busch and pull over try everything I can think of pull the center console make sure all the linkages are on and working , everything is fine . So I call AAA and get it towed to Dodge . The tow truck guy is letting it down off the truck and I notice its rolling quite easily for being stuck in gear . So he gets it all the way down and I hop in . turn it on and its fine , or so I think . Goes into 1st and second fine , reverse too . I'm stumped hte tow truck guy says it happens sometime they just need to be bumped out of gear . I want to test drive it to make sure .

Sure enough I get it into 3rd form 2nd and it free revs again stuck in 3rd/4th ...

So I leave it at Dodge and i'll find out more in the morning .

I hate the SRT tranny , even though it has treated me well . Only mod on the car is a 3" Needswing DP and I know some people who work there . Trying to get a few things done under warranty as well . New TPS and couple bugs ...

Already had the passenger side axle replaced and soon to have new clutch , i'll probally hae them put them CM Stage 4 in I dunno ..

Hopefully be done by friday evening we'll see ...

Damn, sorry to hear about the tranny issues. I remember when Dodge was bragging about the transaxle being a "heavy duty" 5 speed as well. Is that one of the pitfalls of the SRT-4's?

I know DSMs have pretty shitty transaxles as well, but they don't usually have issues at the 20,000 and 40,000 mile mark. Perhaps, there is a bad manufactural defect and there will be a TSB or recall on it in the near future. Knowing Dodge though, they'll try to pin it on the owners, like Mitsu. did to us originally, with the walking crankshaft situation.

yeah there not that comon to break or damage axles from what i know.alot of people have similar proplems but u have to think of how many srts are out there.the numbers just arent there in my view to recall, same situation with the wheel proplem they have or the tranny.i guess there just not meant to beat on them as hard as dodge leads u to belive.but imagine this is only had a 4 year long life.not much time to correct and fix.granate the 04s are better than the 03s but still the motor is strong and the car is nice.cant beat it for 20 grand.

I agree. Perhaps Jerry, or someone else will step up and have the resources/ability to make built transaxles for the SRT4's, sort of like the DSMs.

that a personal question

The tranny seemed to shift fine I just killed the 3rd gear synchronizer . I'm hell on trannies as you can see or if you know how I drive would realize .

Dodge already had the tranny out yesterday and started the rebuild in the morning . I should hopefully have it back by tomorrow evening . They also gave me a new clutch/flywheel combo , new LSD , New synchros for 1st 2nd and third . as well as new shift forks and the shift selector . Hopefully if I take care of this one it will last me . I just need to stop being so hard on the car ...

The problem I'm having right now is my car wobbling left to right. I'm thinking it's my axles or CV joints blown out. But no problem with the tranny, still shift like it's new.

guess you havent seen the abuse his tranny has taken. 100shot + 20psi = 400-450wt + powershifting and mis-shifting. Yeah i guess its not so heavy duty
