Bench testing
I've got an Audi 4.2L V-8 on a pallet in the back of my truck. I need to have it tested to see if it is any good or not. Can you guys do this? If not do you know someone who can? Thanks, Greg

Negatory sir. The only thing we would be able to do is a visual inspection and a compression test, proving you have the starter/transmission available. A machine shop, equipped with an engine dyno, would be the best way to see if the motor is operational. You can try contacting Godwin-Singer, HPS or Engine Labs (as a last resort).

Audi Rebuild
The information ya'll gave me on the Dyno testing got me going. I ended up having to call Engine Labs. They can test it for me if I bring them a long block. That is giong to require some disassembly on my part, cool though, I got that. My concern now turns to the re-build of my 4.2L v-8. Engine Labs it telling me that the pistons are $800 each, the rings are $240 per cylinder, the heads are $2,500 each, and that they can not even get the bearings. So, do ya'll know someone who can re-build an Audi 4.2L v-8 or order me the parts for me to do it myself? That is for less than the $13,000 in just parts that Engine Labs is asking. Thanks for your help!

That engine is quite unique in many ways, starting with the cylinder walls. They are not standard steel liners, instead they are Alusil (aluminum-silicon alloy). Parts are very expensive and for the most part unavailable even from the dealership. You would have to order the bearings from Germany directly. I would recommend buying a good used engine, instead of rebuilding the one you have.
