new rebuild and can’t get it to start

Have a 1972 sporter with a new rebuild and can’t get it to start it has spark and getting gas it’s popping trough the carb and spitting fire out the pipes but that’s it iam stumped could you please give me some ideas of what could be wrong

Hi John. The most common reasons are:
Points not gapped correctly.
Incorrect timing
Incorrect valve adjustment

I have an 87 Electra glide classic with 15000 miles, the other day it started to miss after about 6 or 7 miles and I can’t figure it out. Any ideas would greatly appreciated

Hi Dan. If you believe it is miss firing, we would suggest checking for spark – front & rear.
If spark is intermittent or absent, test your coil.
Inspect your plug wires.
Check your charging system.

I have a 1996 Flhtcu 80 cubic inche. Was riding and key switch turned off. Turned back on back fired a few times then running on front cylinder! Replaced electronic ignitiontransmission timing all is good ! The problem now is mising & poping @3200 or so Rpm ? Acceleration is good up to that point ?

Hi Doug. Suggest testing your charging system.
You can also test your coil.

2003 heritage softail has been having intermittent starting problems. Last week I stopped and when I went to restart the bike the lights came on but hitting the switch I got ZERO. I sat for 15 minutes and it started up fine. Happened again the other day but after an hour it didn’t restart so I had to get towed. I replaed the starter relay as my mechanic said it would be the easiest fix. Next day fired up fine again so I took it for a little spin to town, stopped got gas, started right up, stopped at hardware store, started right up. Pulled in the driveway, she stalled and once again nothing . This morning started up again. Grrr The starter is a rebuilt and a year old. Wondering if it could be that or the solenoid or perhaps something in the circuit. Battery is under a year old

Hi Leslie. When it happens again, check to see if you have triggered voltage to your starter. If you do not, check for constant & triggered voltage @ the starter relay.
Test your start switch for correct voltage & function.
