dirty pilot jets(help)
i just bought a 01 zx9 that has been sitting for awhile. bottom end is slugish but clears out at about 4-5k i assume that this from dirty jet specifically the pilots. anyone know a reputable shop to clean and sync my carbs or if anyone here can do this pm contact info and price. thanks

Before you spend the money, try some Seafoam. I've used it on bikes that have sat a very long time with great results.
Use it a couple times a year and you'll be good to go.10 BMW R1200GSA 30th Anniversary

Yes.
You can add another half ounce per gallon.
Go find a road where you can ride around on the Pilot. Keep the revs low in top gear and let that Seafoam get to the pilot jet.
If it doesn't work, don't be scared to take them off and do the job yourself. I suggest getting a factory manual and doing everything yourself if you can.
Good luck.10 BMW R1200GSA 30th Anniversary

Get some carb cleaner, pop open the intake of the carb spray the crap out of it. If that doesnt do anything take out the carb yourself its very easy

well the seafoam helped a little. but didnt cure it completely. still has a bog until about 3k and bogs really heavy causing to die out with a quick twist of the throttle while idling. from what i have read its likely that the pilot jet is the issue. i have decided i will pull the carbs of tomorrow to clean it out. anyone have any tips. i mechanically incline do all my work on car from swaps tuning and so on. but bikes and CARBS is a new world to me. any tips will be appreciated
thanks

Go get some Berrymans from the auto parts store to soak all the parts.
Careful with the gaskets.
Have some small wire to run through the pilot and main jet. Check the needle.
Replace the JIS screws on the bowls and caps with allen heads. If the carbs have never been apart, there's a good chance of stripping screws.
You may need a hair dryer to make the rubber boots pliablle.
Have fun. It should be a piece of cake for you.Last edited by pjb03; 02-12-2012 at 10:35 AM.

i ended up doing taking them apart last night. i only cleared the pilots out. what a difference. i plan on taking them back off again soon to go threw them completely. they were pretty nasty. bike only has 6k on it but has been sitting for a while since he he laid it down and being in military. whats a ideal warm up temp to start riding.
