Help! cut in my tire......your advice much welcome
so ive had my tires for maybe 6 months...and there is a nice cut/crack ( more of a cut than a crack because the rubber is not stale) The cut is about 4-5'' long and is in about the middle of the tire. should i be concerned and replace..or ride it out....i have been watching the cut grow...it was about 1'' when i first found it. thanks

Is this a serious question?

"They were crying when their sons left, God is wearing black. Hes gone so far to find no hope, hes never coming back. They were crying when their sons left, all young men must go. Hes come so far to find the truth hes never going home."

Its worth mentioning that I work at a motorcycle dealership as a parts guy and yet this still falls into the "stupidest question asked all month" And that is saying something.

If a customer came to your parts counter and asked you this question. What would you tel them?
I hope for you sake you would tell them to replace it. With motorcycle and the speeds they can reach you dont want to take a chance with a tire. Change it.Manx Motorsports.. Check us out for your motorcycle needs!

umm, see if the bike shop will WARRANTY it out for you, that sounds like a hell of a tire defect.

If someone came with this question they would get a blank stare, followed quickly by the explanation they have a damaged tire that obviously in need of replacement. I would be willing to bet any reasonable person would have the answer before they finished asking out loud.
Thankfully for me I don't work at the counter so I can get away with the blank stare.Deals gap 318 turns in 11.5 miles. Florida 318 miles with 11 turns.

rsxtc, i would replace it if i were you, a cut that long is a defect and wouldnt take a chance. there is just no way you can fix that tire.
$200 and you can have a brand new tire and peace of mind knowing that you will get home safely everyday you ride.

Ride it out... you'll never know how long it would have lasted otherwise! Do you really want to find yourself six months from now riding around on your new tire wondering, would I be dead right now or not? There's one way to find out... just saying.

On a more serious note, if the cut was only like 1cm deep on a brand new tire I wouldn't give it much thought as I have had that happen and it just disappeared as I wore the rubber down around the cut. However, if you are watching the cut grow, then it is a no brainer, replace the tire.
