Tom Cruise gets a Ducati Desmosedici RR
NY Daily News Reports:
A superbike fit for a superstar.
"Top Gun" Tom Cruise is the first on the list to get Ducati's newest motorcycle - a $72,500 motorcycle bristling with titanium, magnesium and carbon fiber technology that can scoot up to 200mph.
Cruise is scheduled to take delivery of the Desmosedici RR at Beverly Hills Ducati this week.
Although Cruise rode a Kawasaki Ninja 900 in his iconic scene in "Top Gun," he'll get the first of only 1,500 of the red-and-white Moto GP racing replica motorcycles being made.
Cruise, whose net worth is upwards of $250 million, is known to have an affinity for fast vehicles, including motorcycles, Porsches and planes. Some estimate the actor spent $1 million in 2006 on fuel alone.
Reports said Cruise this month bought one of his three private jets for his wife, Katie Holmes, for $20 million.
The A-list star arrived for a promotion of his film "Mission: Impossible III" on a $60,000 Confederate motorcycle, whose manufacturer, according to Popular Mechanics, produces "some of the coolest, quickest and most eye-popping bikes."
But that need for speed is also often hard to handle.
Cruise escaped unharmed in March 2005 when he crashed his turbo-charged Ducati in Beverly Hills after skidding on a patch of oil.
The crash threw the hunk onto the road, but he was able to sign autographs for concerned fans before jumping back on his mean machine.
Michael Lock, chief of Ducati North America, said the Desmosedici RR "is the impossible dream - made possible."
"We are delighted to be able to deliver the world's first production unit here in the USA to Tom Cruise," Lock said.

And despite common misconception, performing a wheelie to be more visible while passing a vehicle isn't the best practice in the DMV's mind.
