INVERNESS, Fla - The fourth annual Inverness Grand Prix and Motorsports Festival is scheduled for Friday, November 21 through Saturday, November 22, 2014. This World Karting Association (WKA) sanctioned event will have go karts, racing enthusiasts and spectators geared up for Grand Prix festivities centered on Courthouse Square in Downtown Inverness.
Friday night brings the annual free kick off to all festival-goers with a special Friday Night Thunder car cruise in, motor festival vendors, Festival vendors with food, beer and wine for a free street party featuring awesome rock n’ roll with “Big Engine” as they roar onto the stage at 7 p.m. Fun begins at 5 p.m. with free Prix Pub and Restaurant Crawl and kids zone.
Saturday the streets of downtown Inverness will be transformed into a challenging kart racing track. Over six go-karts compete at speeds up to 60 MPH on this very unique street racing event. Main Street will have vendors, classic cars, kids’ activities, music, and more. This free and fun event starts with practice runs in the morning with races beginning at noon. Visit the Pit area and pick your favorite kart to cheer them on. Fox Sports radio announcer Tony Modica will keep you informed on kart positions regardless of your track location. Bleacher type seating will be available for those who may want to settle in and stay a while in addition to plenty of room for portable chairs. In between races there will be a car show with many classic, antique, and muscle cars, motorsport vendors, Festival food vendors with beer and wine for sale. New this year will be entertainment trackside in between the races to include bike demos and more.
The Inverness Event and Visitors Bureau appreciates the generous support of event partners: Duke Energy, Great Bay Distributors, Insight Credit Union, Nick Nicholas Ford, Tobacco Free Florida, Waste Management, Citrus 95.3 and Fox 96.7, Nature Coast EMS, Citrus County Chronicle and the Tampa Bay Times. A portion of the proceeds will benefit local non-profit charity Filter Youth Development.
Event History
This event became a reality though the efforts of the Affordable Karting Club, the City of Inverness and local business the Ice Cream Doctor four years ago.
