RS-R's are finally here.

I won't bore you with the translated gibberish, here is the info.

The guys over at grassroots Motorsport tested the federal 595-RS a few months back, and I have been lobbying to get the higher end RS-R which is 140 tread wear versus the previous tires 180 tread wear. the RS-R also has a stiffer carcass. considering the old tire was close to the Azenis in performance this one should be spot-on or even a little better. best part, they are close to $20 less per corner.

$20 less per corner puts it smack in the price range of the next most popular budget performance tire the hankook RS2 (Z212) the prior version of the federal was exactly the same lap times as the Hankook, (roughly 4/10's slower then the azenis on a typical auto-X course.)

Given the engineering changes this is going to upset the Street tire apple cart. since like a Crack dealer Falken got us hooked and has been consistently raising their prices, while I applaud their effort to move their product up-market. and they even released a lower brand "Visa" to take their prior position as a budget offering. The value leader Azenis, just isn't anymore.

And if you follow international currency markets like I do, you'll also know that unlike the Japanese Yen and Korean Won. The Taiwanese dollar follows our currency closer then the others. so the exchange rate is still absurdly favorable at a 3:1 ratio

Federal makes slicks and Race tires for other markets so they are not completely shooting from the hip here. I'm excited, this is a HUGE deal for those of us that want killer street tires but hate paying for them.

I am not going to add them to the website until they start stocking at the local warehouse, BUT they are here in the states and we can special order them at the low price. and no shipping since they will ship them to the local warehouse for free where I pick them up.

Like I said I'm not proficient in Tiwaneese, but apparently if you are a large american, and buy federal tires girls think you are hot.

How much are they gonna be? It looks like it could be a good tire. I was going to go with the RT615s.

Just got my pricing from federal. while this is WAY Below Retail These are the numbers I'm adding to my website

195/50ZR15 82W 595-RS-R RACING $74/EACH
205/50ZR16 87W 595-RS-R RACING $92/EACH
205/45ZR16 83W 595-RS-R RACING $94/EACH
215/45ZR17 87W 595-RS-R RACING $98/EACH
225/45ZR17 94W 595-RS-R RACING $114/EACH
235/45ZR17 94W 595-RS-R RACING $119/EACH
235/40ZR17 90W 595-RS-R RACING $119/EACH
255/40ZR17 94W 595-RS-R RACING $126/EACH
225/40ZR18 88W 595-RS-R RACING $143/EACH
235/40ZR18 91W 595-RS-R RACING $146/EACH
245/35ZR18 88W 595-RS-R RACING $166/EACH
255/35ZR18 90W 595-RS-R RACING $177/EACH
265/35ZR18 93W 595-RS-R RACING $187/EACH

Pricing is right in line (and lower on the bigger ones) as Hankook's Z212
some sizes the falken sneaks in cheaper and some the Hankook shows an advantage but we are only talking about a few dollars give and take.

That being Said I do get my Azenis from the same warehouse, as everyone else, which happens to be right here in Tampa, so I can be competitive on those too, difference being is as opposed to online dealers I drive to the warehouse and pick them up to save shipping, yea there is tax but we save WAY more then 7% by not shipping.

I think this tire is going to fall right in line with the Azenis on a fast lap but have a little more tolerance to temperature like a RE01-R now when compared to that tire, the federal is a STEAL!

What can you get RT615s in 205/50R15 for? I'm pretty set on that tire size, even though it really shouldn't matter too much.

It's typical of a new product line, Get the most popular sizes out first and expand. Way back when the First Azenis 215 came out they made them in 5 sizes... my distributor had no clue of the demand and we used to have to horde the desirable sizes in the shop so we could keep selling them.

14's really?

I'll do this by alphabetical
BFG KD Min size 205-15
BStone RE01R Min size 195-15
Dlop D1 SS Min 195-15
Kumho MX Min 205-15
Michelin (not even close)
Pirelli Pzero min 16"
yoko Advan Neova min 16"

Hankook Does make a 195/60/14 in the 212, And Falken does make a 615. in 14" which I'll still have both but IMHO there is barely enough market to support just those 2 tires in those sizes. I can be honest when we were rocking and rolling 7-8 years ago with the Azenis, I NEVER sold a single set of 14". 15 sure, 16", 17" all the time. and that was a LONG time ago.

Well the post was not intended to be a raw pimping of the product, as I don't have the product "for sale" if someone ordered them now they would have to wait for them to be special ordered (shipped in from CA) so I'm holding off on taking orders until I can give a decent lead time. now if someone has a purchasing question feel free to PM me. but this thread is intended to be about product, selection, and how this option compares to what is currently available. which if you look at my previous post it's a pretty good synopsis of the supply and demand issue how that relates to sizing, and options.

As for performance, I can send you to a link it's in Japanese, but it explains them testing the RS-R back to back to the RS and with no other changes they went from a 60 second lap to a 58 second lap. that's significant!! if we distill that to the 40 second autocross course that GRM used for testing it should be 1.3 seconds faster then the old tire, or .9 seconds faster then the azenis. This I HAVE to see.

I concur.

Im will be in the market for new rear tires soon. Not sure if I will run full size 275's or go with a 255 so I can still fit them inside the fender.

The only reason my next set won't be Azenis is that 275/40/17 is NOT WIDE ENOUGH....

Im not sure I want a tire with a 140 tread wear. Im thinking the 200 of the RS2 is too low already.
