FTD Vid from NASA-X 8/12/06
Video - My fastest run at the NASA autox 8/12/06, 51.175, FTD.
I didn't really want to put this in someone else's thread, so I started my own. This was my last run, a 51.175. Enjoy!

Great runs from the very beginning Muddy. I don't think you ever had a run outside the 51's, did you? Amazing. You just killed everybody.
jblaine, did you run street tires or race tires? The results are posted. http://nasaxflorida.com/srfiles/12Au...ultsByTime.pdf |

Rosko, you did really well. I remember you kept telling me how shitty you thought you were driving but, 2nd fastest on street tires is pretty damn good if you ask me. With race rubber you could have easily been down to the 52's I think.

Yeah, Muddy definitely had it goin' on Saturday.
I think I could have shaved a few more tenths, but I was having cone trouble. Kept hitting the cone in that Chicago box! And if I didn't hit that one, I'd hit one in the gate after it! My last run was a touch slow because I was concentrating on getting through that section CLEAN rather than FAST. It was a great course! I think the days of me finishing ahead of Muddy are past. |

I'm wondering why you were in the heat with C, B and A class? I felt like my car was in the wrong class too - not that it matters that much - but the RX8 is a proven superior autocrosser as compared with the Z, and it's in D Class? Any input, Loren?I just thought I was driving shitty because I couldn't complete a clean run. Luckily my last run salvaged my day. Although, I'm still not exactly ecstatic about 2nd fastest on street tires. I've never seen jblaine at an event before. How long have you been autocrossing, jblaine? |

I loosened up my front swaybar Saturday morning before the event with the expectation of increasing grip at the front of the car. I didn't expect the results to be as great as they appear to be, but I have also been getting faster at every event since I got race tires. At the last event at SPC, I was .1 second behind FTD, but I hit a cone. It should be interesting to see how I do at the next SPC event.
![]() The next mod for the car will be an o2 signal modifier to trick the car into adding more fuel when the car is in boost, since the car is using stock fuel maps that can't compensate for the car boosting as soon as it does now. Also in the works are adjustable endlinks for the front swaybar. I don't know much about these except that, when adjusted properly, they will eliminate preload on the front swaybar. I know nothing about the affects of preload, I just know that it isn't good. Supposedly this will speed up turn-in. Loren, I think you need a front swaybar and boost to keep up now. Even though you will be giving up some grip, I think the increased transitional response from a front swaybar would have helped you get through the chicago box and the following gate much faster on Saturday.

Re: classing- There are several cars that seem to be classed wrong. Probably that 287 HP that puts you up in C. I'm sure Kenny is happy about it, but I can't figure out why the standard Subaru WRX starts in class E. Many NASA members have been discussing the classing this year so some things may change.
Re:muddy's adjustable endlinks- Preload on the swaybar itself isn't necessarily a problem. Most cars though, do not have 50/50 side to side weight distribution, which causes one side of the swaybar to be loaded more than the other. I wouldn't expect a very noticeable difference. If they are cheap though... I checked into a set for my mustang, over $200. Only worth it if I were road racing and looking for that extra tenth per lap.

Regarding classing, we don't make those decisions locally (except for oddball cars that aren't classed). Classing cars is hard... no matter what you do, you're going to class some car somewhere wrong. I'm not sure I agree that the RX8 and the 350Z don't belong in the same class, though. Nothing against any of you guys, but I've not seen an RX8 or a 350Z driven at an autocross to anywhere near it's potential.
Regarding which cars you run with in a group... we try to run classes together, so if you're in E, all of the E class cars run with you. Other than that, it doesn't really matter who else is in your group. We just try to equalize the size of the run groups, which someone (I'm not sure who) failed miserably at this last time. The Scion, being the only car in class H, which is the slowest class... no matter what group he was in, he was up against faster cars. Of course, I'll enjoy seeing him get faster and start whooping up on some people who "should" be faster. |
