Evolution is a great place to start. They cost around $200 a day and are worth every penny....

BUT - I would suggest going to a test and tune or practice day locally and getting an experienced driver to show you the ropes. You will not be fast, but it is a good place to start and it will help you 'see' the course. After a couple of test days locally, I would suggest a competition day or two as well as Phase 1 and 2 of Evolution.

The way to go fast in autocrossing is seat time, seat time, seat time.

good luck - have fun!

You should get some experience first, before thinking about going to evolution school. Most local events can provide a novice instructor. It is also easy to get people to ride with you, or ride with them, during an event.

Agree with Muddy, Evolution can make you a great driver, but you gotta know what you're doing first. I'd recommend going down to Ft. Myers on Saturday and doing GCAC's novice school. If you've never autoxed it's a good start.

Once you have a few events under your belt and you want to continue autoxing than do the Evolution school.

Check the top of this forum for more info and dates on upcoming events.

I believe, since you are 17, you will need a parent/guardian to sign the waiver for you in order to attend an event as well. The GCAC novice school would be a great start, especially since they have one before every event. I started with a novice school and found that it was a tremendous help. I did not get lost on course like many newbs do.

Yes, you'll definitely need a parent handy to sign insurance waivers for you until you're 18. That and a valid drivers license will get you into just about any autocross or autocross school.

Definitely get some schooling. A 17-year-old with a WRX and no driving experience is a scary thing!

More importantly, to respect the speeds that car is capable of and the limits of its tires. It's way too easy to get up to ludicrous speeds and get in over your head with a car like that.

Maybe he should just let me drive it.
