Amp cuts out?

I have a '96 Beretta with stock battery, and alternator...my problem is that my amp and/or HU cuts off at a certain volume. I have owned louder systems before so the volume isnt that loud.

I do own a low quality system so that could be one of the reasons.

Alpine HU (i think 9984)
2 12'' Sony X-shits lol
Dual amplifier (also is mounted on a bandpass box)

I am pretty sure that my installation is fine so i dont think thats the issue

thanks

also when the amp and or HU cuts out it turns right back on...it plays fine when im guessing a "comfortable" volume for the amp lol

i would guess you are clipping(shorting out) one of the speakers connected to the headunit. have you upgraded them? one might of the leads mght be touching metal when turned up?, or voice coil is shorting out putting head unit into protect and turning off.

When it 'cuts off' are you just losing the sound or is the unit literally turning off?

Ah, so if the HU is shutting off it's turning the amp off. Pop out your hu and meter the power, make sure you're not getting a massive voltage loss at the HU. Check both the constant and ignition. Then jump a new ground onto a nice solid clean metal surface instead of the harness. Check and be sure none of the pins in the harness have worked their way loose too, I've see that many times.

Yep, those pins will waste a lot of your time figuring that out, always run a good ground to chasis metal. i would make sure none of the non used speaker leads out of the radio are not touching, bell cap none used wires!

run a temp wire from battery to power radio and see if it still does it - this will rule out power in harness.

This saved me like a million hours of bullshit a couple years ago.

The problem is more than likely at your headunit, or before. Just check for major voltage drops at various places.

well i have no equipment to test the power for the HU....and when i did my ground i am more than positive that i put a nice clean surface for the ground....and what you mean by the pins? are you talking about the pins that holds the HU in place?

Does the HU cut off or just the sound?

The pins in the wiring harness. Even a cheapo wal-mart meter will do the job.

monitor your voltage... It may be dropping low enough to make the headunit and amp turn off...

exactly. my alpine does the exact same thing. i think they have built in voltage drop protectors...when its idling and i have it turned up, the alt cant keep up and my battery sucks cause its cheapo 3 year old advance auto batt. but it will shut down the head unit, in turn shutting off the amps....upgrade your alt and battery.
