We sell Audiobahn, and just put two of those 1000Q's into a ZR-1 with about 500 watts going to the pair. It is quite loud, and gets down quite low. I did a single 1200Q in my wife's escalade on about 800 watts, and it works well, also. I hear a lot about Audiobahn not being any good, but it works well for me.
I also sell Crossfire, and they have a new entry level line called Distinct Audio. I sell the Distinct 10's for $99 a pair, and they're good for 150 RMS, 450 max. Dual 4 ohm coils. I'm putting 4 of them in a Caprice wagon on a 4x125 Distinct amp. We powered it up a couple weeks ago, just to hear them, and they were damned impressive! All 4 are in about 3 cubes, sealed. They hit hard, get down low, and sound very smooth. Lots has been lost, imho, on these new, big power, high excursion subs. Yes, they'll take lots of power, but they'll need lots of power to get loud. And standard 1w or 2.83 V at 1 meter efficiency readings don't mean squat...most of them are at 1khz...useless for a sub. Back in the late 80's, nearly every 'loud' car had a punch 150 (a whopping 180 watts mono) and a pair of punch 12's. Most of them were truly loud and sounded good, too. And you didn't need 3 extra batteries, 2 caps, and 1/0 wire. Sure, they weren't 160 db, but I did 134 with mine, on the old IASCA DB test track (for those who don't remeber it, it was far from 50 cent). I've got nothing against big systems, though. My other Caprice (91 sedan) has two Lightning 12's on a lightning 1000 watt class D, with an 800 watt staggered amp running the mids and highs (14 of them). It also has a 225 amp alternator, 250 amp isolator, 1/0 cable, a Yellow Top, and a 25 farad cap. For anything but a sound off pounder, give me a couple 10's in a sealed box, with 250-500 watts on the pair, a couple sets of seperates, and a good head unit. Maybe I'm just getting too old. you will be dissappointed with 10's f your used to the 15's....
i had a set of Kicker Comp vr series sub's in my old explorer, hand made ported box and a rockford fosgate 500.2Power amp that pushed out 714 watts according to the birth cirtificate. also had a Tsunami 1.0 farad capactior.... that combo hit 154.2db in an audio competition and set a WV state record that held for 2 years and i had about $800 in the entire stereo system. then i went to a mustang and went with 2 10 Compvr's and hit a whooping 141.0 in a custom box with the same amplifer and set a Fl state record cause the amp was rated at 300rms. can't miss with Kicker, good quality and been around for a while. you wont be disappointed with the comp vr series. i think the 10's go for about $60 a piece, $75 for 12's, and $125 for 15's. |
