Hey guys. I've been meaning to make an account on here for a while now. Ruler(my sisters husband) told me about this site and I like what I see.

Ok, now for my question. I have two pyle 10" 500W subs just laying around that I need to build a box for. I was wondering what the stats of the amp that I need are. 2 or 4 channel? How many watts? Any other requirements?
Thanks.

a mono amp or 2 channel would work fine with them. they are Pyle so i doubt they would take 500 true watts. if you look in the classifieds here for a 300 to 500 watt amp that would be plenty for those subs.

you should look for a 2ohm mono block that maxes at 1000 watts. will push them perfectly...

depending on sound quality you want either wire it in a 2ohm load for boom or bump the ohms up to 8ohm for clarity if you want boom go with a 600-1000 2chn amp and bridge it... a cheap amp will work dont spend to much the subs wont handel anything extreme...

When did this section start getting people giving out horrible advice.

a. Never look for an amp by max power.

b. You will not notice a difference in sound quality between 2 and 8 ohms. I will give you the Pepsi challenge all day on that.

You don't need much at all, 500watts would realisctly be good for you. 1000 would honestly be pushing it. Find an amp that puts out ~500watts RMS @ 2ohms and your golden.

Thanks for all the quick responses.

I really hate to ask this question after all the nice responses, but would a 200W-400W sub provide ok power to the subs? I'd like to only spend around $50 for a used amp (I don't know if that's enough $ though) which I probably should have stated in my first post, sorry.

I'm slowly gaining knowledge on car audio. Please do me a favor and correct me if I'm wrong---

So from what I understand the 4 ohm subs ratings don't mean a thing. A 2 ohm amp will provide lots of bass, and higher ohm amp up to 8 ohms is more clarity less bass.

A 2 channel amplifier means you can use 2 subs, splitting the watts evenly. And 4 channel can be used with 1-4 subs, splitting the watts even.

A kicker is different from a sub, a kicker is a speaker for more sound, a sub woofer provides bass and some lower clarity sound.

Thanks.

actually you will i have and had built many systems the higher the ohm the better sound quality you get example how all factory systems are all 8+ohm speakers alone with pa speakers... granted you need a good amp to make the difference... a speaker at 500watts mabey puts out 35-200rms get a 600-1000watt amp and turn it down the less strain and the cooler you can run an amp the better quality you will get there for always go with more watts and keep it turned down... challange me to a sound comp any day ill beat your head in with bass...

did you just say most factory systems are 8 ohms? first of all that is incorrect (unless u are workind on home audio) and second of all how the heck does factory set ups come up in conversation about either sound quality or bass ? They are know for niether if they were id be in another line of work . And on a side note i would love to see this match(727 and mikiemike). and now is the perfect time just found out there is a show sunday the 21st at 1200 34th st south st pete 33711 727 564 8406 registration at 10 30 show starts at 1100

 I won't even bother picking apart everything wrong in that paragraph.

I didn't challange you to a SPL contest but sure if you want to bring a single sub set up in a trunk car, I am not going out of my way to build something to just prove you wrong.

727 is correct, i dont know where mikiemike gets his info from, if it is his personal experience then he need to hear a real system, yes your 200-400 watt amp will work, if it is bridgable you can wire the subs at 2ohm mono, or if it clips out or goes in protect - just run them stereo, the correct box will make more a difference than the amp. I will take your challenge, post you requirements and i will supply a car that will put you to shame!. save some time look at post 111 The Beast is in pieces...in cosmetic and audio surgery...:) - Page 3 - MBWorld.org Forums (http://www.mbworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=253605&page=3)

all true...but there is a few 1000w amps that only give out 250max on each channel...but yeah i get your point.
