I have a pioneer head unit installed in an 00 civic. The reception is horrible on the radio i rarely get any station and I have the antenna line hooked up to the head unit so it should be working. Just got the car so Im not sure if its something else anyone have any tips for me so i can start out searching in the right place instead of taking a shot in the dark.

repped for help

thanks

could be as simple as the antenna is not plugged in the back of the head unit, or there is no power going to the power antenna

Yea i figured id look for that. The antenna line is much shorter then my harness for the head unit so that was a consideration.

As dumb as it sounds, and I'm not trying to offend you (you just got the car), have you looked above the driver side door on the A pillar /roof corner outside to make sure the antennae is fully extended? 96-00 Civics have the old school manual retractable antennae that shoots back at a 45 degree angle and it is almost never fully extended. They get stuck 1/2 way out (or even all the way in) and people never realize how long they really are when fully extended (they look goofy and people shove them 1/2 way in).

I have kids from the high school come in all the time complaining that they can't get 98.7 in good in their Civics and everytime it is because the antennae isn't out all the way!

If that is the case, don't pull too hard or it will break. If stuck, shoot penetrating oil down the shaft. If that doesn't work worst case scenario, remove the two T25 torx screws that hold down the base to the roof and take the antennae loose (you'll have to remove the inside A pillar trim also to access and unplug antennae lead). Soak the shaft in mineral spirits to eat up all the old white lithium factory grease that turns to glue over the years. Lube, reinstall, good to go....

^ lol that's true with my escort!

sometimes it doesn't pick up 97.1 if it isn't extended,
but i never listen to the radio anyways so i always keep it in.
