Greetings, I just came across 4 kicker CRV 12's for a steal (CompVR 07CVR122). I wanna run them in my Burb. I'm looking for an amp that will be able to power these. Any suggessions, or if you have an amp F/S that would work LMK. Thanks for all replies.

ok the handling power on those are 50-400 watts. so lets say you push 350 to each continuous that will be about 1400 watts needed.
how much are you willing to spend?
if it were me id suggest going with two 2 channel 800 watt amps
maybe 400 watts x 2 at 2 ohm
your job is to look for an amp with that thats in your price range.
hope that helps.

^^^^ +1!!
We sell an amp made by Exonic that is max 1500 watts. We also have the US Amp XT4000D. I have personally heard both of these amps running two to four Kicker CVR 12's and they have had no problems. We have sold this setup a few times. The US Amp XT4000D is on closeout for $349 as it is the last one I have. The Exonic 1500 is $249 right now. I personally would go with the US Amp as it is a little more capable for your setup.

Thought a lil better of you guys than to push an amp by saying its "max" power.

No offense taken (I think), but I am lost. As you know (you've been around a long time too), I don't really push anything accept advice if we've tried something that works-real time advice. The business I get from the Audio HQ threads themselves is absolutely negligible and you know I don't sit here and "push" for sales.
As far as stating the amps max power, who cares? When I made the statement, I even stated that 1500 watts was the max. He wasn't asking for specs, just wanted to know what would work. That was the advice I was giving. As you know also, there are tons of other amps out there that would probably sound great with this setup, I was just covering the low-to-middle budget area with amps that I have personally seen, installed, and heard work great.
If specs were asked for, then the statement would have been made differently-RMS would have been included (which for the record is 750rms on the US AMP, and 800rms on the Exonic-two of either would probably be optimal although one US Amp could handle them by itself if his 2 ohm subs were wired in series-4 ohms per channel) for clarification.
Why not list what amps you would suggest that you have heard/seen work well? I know you have been through a few systems over the years. Give him a few options-barely anyone has responded. You know how it is when you are searching for some advice. Real-world advice is ALWAYS best! :)

just out of curiousity why are you charging so much for only 750 watts rms? thats ridiculus even for retail.

??? That is like asking why JL Audio 1000 watt amps sell for $799 when you can get a "Boss or Pyramid" 5000 watt amp for $189. It is like any other equipment, you get what you pay for (for the most part). As far as selling for retail, the US Amp XT4000D retails for $599-my shop has never sold anything at retail. As a matter of fact, the very cheapest one on eBay right now is $313 including insurance and shipping-however, they admit it is sold AS-IS and there is no warranty because they are not an authorized dealer (read the fine print)-EVERYTHING we sell is warrantied: US AMPS 4000 WATT AMP AMPLIFIER XT4000D XT-4000 D MONO - eBay (item 330145222174 end time Sep-30-08 09:39:08 PDT) (http://cgi.ebay.com/US-AMPS-4000-WATT-AMP-AMPLIFIER-XT4000D-XT-4000-D-MONO_W0QQitemZ330145222174QQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p 3286.m20.l1116). So, $349 with the full one year warranty isn't a bad deal-US Amps and RE subs aren't incredibly cheap but they are of good quality IMHO.
BTW, the US AMP XT4000D is gone as of Saturday-thanks Jeff and good luck...

It just bugs me when people speak about an amp and refer to it's max power.
He didn't really name a budget, but a Sundown 1500 would push them beautifuly, I think they are on sale right now for $325. Or he can pre-order the new Sundown 1200 for cheaper than that. A Kicker KX1500.1 would work well too, can be had for $250 new. Could also try out an Audioque AQ1200D, they are brand new for $250.

Have you ever used an MA Audio amp? By far one of the worst brands I have worked with. I am not sure about the XT series but the Merlin series are worth the extra money, and you know where your money went.

i was really happy with my ma....only 1000 watts rms but it would beat almost as hard as a 1500 rms. do you think cerwin vega is junk too? 600watts rms for 150?
Funny that you all mentioned MA Audio. I have to agree with 727 on that one. As stupid as it sounds, we were contacted by the southeast MA rep a few years ago to distribute their line. I thought because of the style of the lettering, and the initials, it would be kind of cool if the product was good that we would carry it (they also liked the fact that it was somewhat cohesive with our logo and initials-I told you it was a little lame on my part!).
Well, I carried their entry line for about two months. The amps absolutely sucked in my opinion and subs weren't much better. We had two of the four class D mono amps blowing their fuses out of the box, their subs sounded muddy, and I was getting much better sound out of the super cheap line we had at the time manufactured by "Powerbass" for about 2/3 the price! I never even got past their regular line of stuff so I can't speak on their higher line products but my experience in the past as a distributor SUCKED-I had the rep come pick up all the rest of the equipment-just speaking from first-hand experience.
But, I have heard that they have fixed much of their manufacturing problems and some other installers/shop owners I have spoken with recently said their stuff has come a long ways. I am planning on checking out some of their stuff at the next dealer show in October. We'll see then...
As far as Cerwin Vega-they are just not a big part in the game like they were in the 90's. They were good back then but no one has even carried their equipment in like 10 years locally? At least not their mobile line. I am not even sure they make any mobile products anymore-click the link-their webpage has been like this for a long time! http://www.cerwinvegamobile.com/comingsoon.html

tru, the only thing that u can find locally with cerwin vega is the stroker pros. anything else its pretty hard to find. i mainly use older 90's amps such as digital audio, ma, and cerwin vega. always had good exp from those 3. you usually gotta search a bit but you can usually find them in flea markets or pawn shops. surprisingly they are NEW from flea markets. O does anyone know anyone who can fix a jl 500x1? it goes into protect quickly after being power on. love to get it fixed.

Supposedly, this guy is in my neck of the woods out here and he contacted Toby (TJ Elite-now defunct at least locally) about a year ago stating he repairs amps. I have never seen or heard of him out here and I don't even know if he is still around but it's worth a shot. Post here what you find out after you contact him (this has been a sticky at the top of this page also for almost a year):

Well if your happy thats what counts.
I didn't even know they made amps:lol: and theorreticaly you should hear almost no audible difference between 1000watts and 1500 watts. By theory that is only a 1.5dB increase, which is not very noticeable at all.
But first off I wouldn't even judge an amp by the power to price ratio. Build quality, durability, customer service, ect. all come into play when talking about amps. Thats why I only run Sundown amps, build quality is superb, durability is out of this world (I could burp my 3000 at under .5 ohms and it has no problem, not to mention I could put that 3000watt amp on a 17volt system and get 7000 watts out of it), and if I have any questions or issues I can e-mail the owner of the company and get a direct response from him within an hour usually.

Wow, I'm alittle lost. I guess I'm going to have to do some research as to which amp I'm gonna buy. I want to thank everyone for their input. I still need to get a proper box built (can anybody help with this)and sort out my wiring.
