im pretty sure its supposed to run from your battery to your cap, and from your cap to your amp.

In theory, as close to the amp as possible. In practical terms, I'd install it back in the package it came from, and return it. Or, in the trash.
Caps are useless in nearly all, if not all, car audio applications they are used in, and they definitely don't justify the cost of the cap, or the install. In fact, many cap installs cause problems, due to poor connections, etc.
I could tell you to search, as this has been discussed many times, but the forum is dead, so what the heck...the debate will most likely play out again.
I predict that within 10 posts, this has moved on to batteries, alternators, and / or 'the big 3'...

he was just asking how to install........ he wasnt asking any opinions........

No one was asking you opinion on other user's comments. ;)
Anyone can post whatever opinion they want on a subject as long as it falls within some relativity to the subject and is not destructive. Of course there's always a bit of leeway, but the gist is: freedom of speech.

The point of a capacitor is to maintain voltage while the battery waits for the chemical reaction that facilitates the production of current to respond to the added demand from the amplifier.
With that in mind you want the capacitor's current to reach the amplifier as soon as possible, so place it as close to the amplifier as possible.

Short and sweet-what he said...

it was said big 3!!!!!!! start there - make sure your current battery is in good shape, fluid up to level - corrosion cleaned, and upgrade your GROUNDS! a cap has it place and installed correctly will bandaid a system - but should not be the final fix!
