Okay, so we got into a little bit of this discussion on my other thread when we were talking about some other brands over-SQ'ing Kicker's stuff. P057 was mentioning Diamond Audio and Alpine as an example.

I've got an '06 Silverado with a STD Cab. The only equipment I have thus far is a Kenwood DPX502 Double Din H/U. I had previously been considering an entire Kicker setup (components, rears, sub, amp, box). Several things about Kicker really appealed to me; first was cost-effectiveness, second was they offered a tuned truck box w/the sub, and third was the fact that they have a 3-channel amp which would allow me to run the mids/highs on two channels, and then the sub on a single sub-specific channel.

With a limitied budget in mind (I'd like to stay around a grand or so), what would you do for a sound setup in your truck? Brand, part numbers, links are all helpful of course to support your theory :bigthumb:

These are the items I need:

6.5" Components
4x6" Rear Speakers
(1) 10-12" Subwoofer **OR** (2) 8" Subwoofers
Truck Box for above sub(s)
Amplifier for above sub(s) and also mids/highs.Discuss :nerd:

Sound install? I'd do an active 2-way setup, no rear fill and probally a sealed 10" sub.

Basically a DIY component set. Pick your own mids and tweeters. I would say a nice 8" speaker with a tweeter that likes to play a lil low. You use an active x-over instead of a passive like most component sets.

PS: My boy has some badass 8" Seas for sale, PM me if interested.

alpine is like low-rung quality stuff. Like i mentioned as well, their stuff has gone somewhat crappy like every other audio company.

Go get some rainbows or focals. :P

Heh, if you want decent-low budget but high quality stuff, I've always been a big fan of Polk's speakers. Their component sets are all great but their stuff does get really pricey if you bump it up a few notches.

It's really key to go and check stuff out for yourself and try to find what you like best. Try to go to car shows and ask the guys to let you hear their setup. Ask what they have, what they specifically did to reduce distortions and prevent rattling. (ie. did they fiberglass and insulate the door panel themselves to keep bass low, punchy, and non-rattley?)

There are tons of stuff to look at, but now you're just deviating away from the fact you want something cheap but decently OK. I just think you took what I said to heart. I almost guarantee if you went with the setup you were going to get, you'll be happy with it. I just don't like the fact that people think kicker's the shit (along with JL), bar none.:D

First off, do you want to go active or passive? I got some parts in mind but I need to know that first.

/\ I've got no clue as to what the difference is :nerd:

you might be happy with something simple. 10 or 12 sub, components up front, a nice headunit, 2 amps (for sub and components) and your done...

That's kinda what I'm looking for man. Simple, decent s/q, and decent thump. I'm NEVER going to enter into any shows. I'm just a dood with a truck that likes music :dunce:

I just didn't know if anyone had any suggestions for different brands than Kicker & Alpine (the two brands I am personally familiar with on past setups of mine), for the comparable cost(s) and better sound?!?!
