Got the engine rebuild nearly complete on the Juno, almost time to get back to the track! Anyone doing any events in August? I'm going to be at Sebring with SAFE on August 16, then again the next Saturday August 23 with Chin Motorsports. And I'm racing at Sebring first weekend in September with PBOC. Been five weeks since I've driven, starting to go crazy.

A bunch of us will be at Sebring on Sept 7th with Chin. (that may be the event Chi is talking about, it was rescheduled from Aug 2nd) I plan to be there for the whole weekend.

No plans for August. And no money!

The only thing at Sebring on Sept 6 & 7 is the PBOC event which I'm racing at. Chin's 2008 calendar is here: Chin MotorSports 2008 Event Calendar (http://www.chinmotorsports.com/events/calendar_2008.asp)

Yeah, I meant PBOC. Sorry, my brain is fried.

I'm hoping PBOC changes the race schedule that weekend, I've been sending emails to lobby for it, they have us down for two 20 minute sprint races both days which is really way too short for Sebring, I can only do just under 10 laps in 20 minutes. I suggested they base Sunday's grid on Saturday's races, then they could remove qualifying and have two 35 minute races which would be much better.

Well so much for that, SAFE decides to cancel the event with five days notice due to lack of registrations; apparently not the first time. That screws me for the Chin event too because I was going to use the SAFE event as a shake down on the new engine and the people I need to have involved are going to be racing/driving in American Le Mans the weekend of the Chin event so I had to cancel that one.

I suggested to SAFE that the members who had signed up may be
willing to pay more so the event could go on, myself and two others I know who were going were all willing to spend up to $1k/each to keep it on since having Sebring split up amongst 10 to 15 cars would be awesome, but no call back on that. Probably going to think twice before scheduling another event with them since I plan these things well in advance and pay people who prep and transport my car who I still have to pay since they've already committed the two days to me and can't find another client with such short notice, so I'm out a bunch of money regardless now.

On the up-side, my business partner felt bad for me so I can take off work Friday the 5th now and run the two hour enduro race with PBOC as well as the sprints on Saturday and Sunday.

Guess I'm doing a bunch of karting between now and then.

It's tough out there right now.. we are holding our school in conjunction with PBOC.. and we are in discussions with FARA from south Florida to co-sponsor future races with them... it's all good things since they usually don't come north of Homestead. but PBOC has been GREAT to deal with.. and they are big enough you don't have to worry about them canceling.

You realize PBOC canceled their August and December events right? :) To their credit, and FARA's as well since they have canceled at least one this year, both did it well in advance; I'm doing my first race with FARA later this year. PBOC also must run off of a budget to cover the slower events because there is no way they turned a profit on the Homestead event in April, there were only 15 of us racing for example, but then they make a ton of money on events like Sebring Winterfest, so they can afford to lose money at some of the events.

I know the economy sucks, but if a club is strung so tight that they can't cover a lack of signups, they need to either raise their rates to compensate so their members don't get screwed, or they need to not plan events during months that are traditionally slow. Either that or cancel them so far in advance that it's a non-issue. I'm out $1600 for this weekend for people I arranged because of the cancellation and I'm out half that for the following since I was still able to get some of the money back. Just letting me know Friday instead of Monday would have saved me $800....

keep in mind there has been a lot of track trouble this year.. with moroso being closed all sumer to remodel. the offset demand was placed on the other tracks... and a lot of that was expected to be picked up by ERS which is just opening up now.. so not all the cancellations were due to the clubs.. Homestead holds a short term leash on all the clubs if a "pro" team wants to test... hopefully when Moroso re-opens. it will be better.
