Between these two subs? Other than price/color?

Kicker L5 in a truck box (silver): $139.99

KICKER TS10L5 10" L5 2OHM SOLO-BARIC SUB BOX ENCLOSURE - eBay (item 140252215992 end time Jul-30-08 17:33:57 PDT) (http://cgi.ebay.com/KICKER-TS10L5-10-L5-2OHM-SOLO-BARIC-SUB-BOX-ENCLOSURE_W0QQitemZ140252215992QQcmdZViewItem?hash =item140252215992)

Kicker L5 in a truck box (black): $228.15

KICKER TS10L7 2-OHM 10" SOLOBARIC LOADED CAR/TRUCK BOX - eBay (item 280247626258 end time Jul-28-08 11:53:05 PDT) (http://cgi.ebay.com/KICKER-TS10L7-2-OHM-10-SOLOBARIC-LOADED-CAR-TRUCK-BOX_W0QQitemZ280247626258QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item2 80247626258)

Unfortunately, I think I like the black one better, but can't justify (yet) the additional fundage for liking the color better... :dunno:

the first one is a L5, very nice sub!!!
the second is a L7, even nicer sub!!!

you would be very happy with the L7 imo, hits harder, handles more power.

O I C.... Never realized that L5 and L7 denoted any differences in performance! Thanks fellas :bigthumb: And what about this??? ~~~> Muddy Sounding? :dunno:

Now, keep in mind, this is something that will be going into a standard cab pickup truck (Silverado)... Do I really need the L7 over the L5?? How much more "ass" of an amp would I need to effectively net the gains an L7 has to offer over the L5?

Many thanks :mullet:

the L7 handles a couple hundred more watts of power. muddy sounding????? i have no clue what hes talking about. but if your able to get the L7, get it. theres a world of difference. it will sound awsome, specially with your limited room.

If you're looking for loud, you'll be happy with either in a truck. As far as muddy, he means Kicker subs are usually on the sloppier end of sound quality. The average consumer is only looking for something to rattle their eardrums, so it really just depends on how much of an audiophile you are.

this is what you need..either the JL 13.5 w6v2
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll311/tonyk352/jl.jpg

or the bad boy JL 13.5 w7
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll311/tonyk352/JL-Audio-JL13W7.jpg

I guarantee either one will sound better than either of those kickers

MiDiablo

Neither of those will fit in my truck - a standard cab. I had a W7 and had to sell it because ANY box that I wanted to have made to fit into my truck was going to cost me far too much money. And even then they couldn't guarantee sound quality because of the limited depth.

I have less than 11" at the bottom and less than 7" at that top behind my seat for a 12" sub. Which I think is the reason why the shop recommended the L5 to me. Does well in a small enclosure :dunno:

As far as sound quality goes. I'm not a HUGE audiophile or whatever, but I like a good clean set of mids/highs and a nice thumper. I've always had Alpine and Kicker in my vehicles and been pretty happy :dunno:

No such luck brother. Seat is gonna be RIGHT up on the box! :crack:

Uhm, so what is a preferred setup?!

A.) (2) Kicker 8" L7 Subs
B.) (1) Kicker 10" L7 Sub
C.) (1) Kicker 12" L5 Sub

What's the general opinion on the plus and minus on these three different setups?

Thanks,
-Josh

I would get a couple shallow mount 12"s instead and get a box built by some one local :)

MiDiablo
07-29-2008, 11:36 PM
While that sounds good/great....... It wasn't one of the options

I specifically have access to those three options right now, and would like to make the best decisions - that's all :dunce:

DunnellonBoy

it all depends on what your looking for...the 8'' or 10'' will prolly sound the best..it wont be the loudest but if your goin for a lil bump and a good sound quality those two would prolly be the best..but if you want it louder than the 12'' will be the one to get but the quality wont be as good..plus you gotta think the 12'' will need a bigger box so you will have to scoot your seat forward so that it will fit

why not 2 10 l5's?

MiDiablo
07-30-2008, 01:57 AM
B/C it wasn't one of the options

No, but seriously, because I don't have a line on two of those in a truck box. There are a few things for sale locally that I can get. One is a box with (2) 8" L7's (smaller sub, but they're the L7's instead of L5, AND there is a pair of them instead of just a single sub). Then there is another one local that is a single 10" L5. Then if I decided to go with the L7, I would just order it off eBay.......

And I'm trying to stay within a budget here on my setup. I don't want to get too radical with it. But I don't think I would need to much of a serious amp to push either the two 8"s, or a single 10/12" sub either. But getting into pushing two of the 10/12" subs is going to be much more of an expense when it comes to powering them and building a box that in fact fits as needed in muh pickemup....

Make sense???

get the two 8 inch L7.. one for each seat.. it will need less room to move in and out.. a smaller box but the two subs will produce good bass..

Don't become a bassaholic though cuz its an expensive habit.. worse than drugs haha

imo id go 1 10. i have a single cab ranger and 1 10 sounds amazing. i put my box behind the pass and the amp behind the driver seat.

MiDiablo
07-30-2008, 01:43 PM
Ranger cab is quite a bit smaller than a Silverado cab.

I'm leaning towards the two 8"s, for the reasons listed above.

Yes, I don't like kicker's sound quality so I'm going to jump down about three notches into very mediocre territory.

It's all subjective.

hifonics, polks, alpine, elemental designs, diamond, crossfire, JL obviously, etc. They all make good stuff. Some of the stuff I mentioned doesn't get loud but is fairly easy to make clean sounding.

alpine makes PS2s?

Alpine in general sucks now, bunch of cheap chinese crap.

Their subwoofers are still fairly respectable in price, OK power, and slightly above OK sound quality

i like kicker 10" i have one and it works good but you cant really hear anything out of it, it might be my amp tho,my old one you can

08-02-2008, 10:54 AM
ok so. the 8 L7 doesn't handle as much rms power as the 10 or 12. in fact it handles the same power as the 10 L5. if you are looking for a speaker to fit behind your seat, dont get a solobaric. yes they make the small box and the sub is powerful, but they sound like ass. you will not be happy. kicker makes a line of shallow subs called CVT that sound good and are less expensive than the L series. other companies make shallow subs to, just find something that you can HEAR before you buy and the 10 L5 you can hear at any circuit city's thunp room
