i just bought a 87 trans am wth a z 28 engine. i think the tps sensor is bad cuz its runnin really rich, blwin blue smoke. ne one have this snsor or no how easy it is to change it? and after its changed out will the smokin stop?

blue smoke is oil, black smoke is rich, white smoke is water. sounds as if it may be leaking oil into the cyl either by bad rings or valve guides... pull the plugs and look at them

I have seen a car run so rich that it washed the ring out and smoked blue... only seen it once and it was a built up turbo buick so it had huge injectors. but it can happen. after we got it tuned up, the smoking quite after a little while.



prob couldn't happen from a bad tps thou.... what makes you think its bad?

well, the reason i think the tps sensor is bad is b cuz it will surge a lil wen its cold. and it only smokes on start up, last maybe 35 seconds, if that. im gonna do a full tune up and see were i end up. i noticed wen i was drivin it the other day it started mis firing and runnin on 7 cylinders. it was still strong it was just runnin like shizil. any other suggestions about the car? by the way guys, i need a set of headers or a full exhaust, if u guys got anything let me know, right now im runnin a slow master single muff, which is decent but i dont want the restriction of the single, i would rather have true dual. thanx guys

yea sounds like what the guy said above about oil, like he said i'd atleast check the spark plugs or you could just need to replace a gasket, good luck

historically, smoking on startup is valve guides

thats wat i was thinkin too. i did a full tune up last night and its runnin 100% better. to errrrrrbody!!! tonight at bradenton motorsports park(off hwy 64) is club 1320, 10 to watch, 15 to run. i hope u guys come out
