Just to let everyone know, I'm not saying it's a big deal so dont hate on me cuz I'm broke haha!
But my bro was running his '97 Neon's stock stereo too loud a few too many times and has completely blew his front 2 speakers and today we're most likely gonna change them out, I have an aftermarket head unit but I'm gonna install it another day. any advice or tips on what and what not to do? thanks for helipng out.

Golden rules:
run new wires while you have the door panels open.
make sure your speakers are in phase
solder the connections in the doors.
make sure your speakers are flush with the mounts, holes on the sides will destroy sound quality.

when you mean run new wires....does that mean just cut out factory wire and replace it with "after market" wires....or attach "after market" wires to the factory wire.

i think he ment just run a new set of wires - you can leave factory alone, he is not a fan of factory wiring - I only think this is needed when you are powering the spearkers by an amp and putting some real power to them.

Oh no, I'm just putting new door speakers in to replace the factory ones, because they're completely blown and they'd be somewhat louder than the factory ones. So, I don't have to use aftermarket wiring, right? Pardon me if I'm a nooblet at audio installation haha!

yeah I meant run new wires, but I doubt you will be able to tell the difference from the stock wiring. its more of a peace of mind thing than actual audible gains.

soldering is still a really good thing to do though.
