Hey Bob I had a question about suspension
You helped me out in a post with a part of it before and now I wanna see what else
you think....I have a 90 Civic 4 door that if I would want to take to an auto x I could
buy still be rideable everyday deffently care more about the daily ride and wanted to
see what you would use for struts and springs with a minimal budget.
Senor Honda replies:
I use stock spring rates, since they were designed for the cars weight.
I use heavier shocks and heavier anti-sway bars.
------------------------------------------
Harder springs cause loss of grip in the turns, unless the pavement is super smooth, and they
don't work well on the street-too uncomfortable.
and most people don't know how to tune for the course........or tune for the street.
If you drive to the track, a well-tuned street suspension will do well in both places.
If you tow to the track, then you can probably
afford several sets of suspension set-ups, and would hire me to make it work for you. -Bob
----------------------------------
Minimal budget?
When I had little money I cut coils to keep the same spring rates, and rebuilt the shocks, myself,
On my street car right now, I have cut coils,
(3" drop, and I carry the photos with me to meets)............ plus double sway bars and rebuilt shocks. I have no blown out shocks, no beat up suspension, no eaten tires..........
Every suspension is different, though. I had a
Nissan that was one exhaust pipe diameter off the ground, cut coils, rebuilt shocks, cheapo sway bars..........it won 90% of the time.
I have spent some time in junk yards measuring
pieces, and found that a lot of things interchange that most people don't know about.....some Prelude suspension parts and some Vigor suspension parts fit my Accord.
I have sometimes relocated suspension points
or took a part from a different car that had suspension points relocated to start with.
I was measuring some shocks the other day and I think I have found the next front setup for my car, but I need to check it again to be sure of what I was looking at.............
Catch me at some of the meets, and we can look at your car.-Bob

I'd support considering these posts as "services for sale" since they are not exactly informational and he is advertising his services. I have no problem with the content of the thread, while I consider the information to be slightly sophomoric. we are an open forum, and have to accept all information provided, Good, bad, or indifferent. while I think with a little training we can get Bob to understand why his suggestions are not exactly engineeringly correct, considering diffrent applications and needs.
I do however need to say I have seen quite a few hondas lately riding on the bump stops under the guise of improved handling. when a car looses suspension travel and does not compensate for that reduced travel there will be a bumpstop issue. and then the effective spring rate raises from 100 or so lbs per inch to 2000 lbs per inch.
and that's if the shock does not beat itself to death in the process. It's not the feel good thread. it's just the truth.
I'm not saying BOB does bad work. I'm just thinking we should reserve this forum for non-commercial interests. I know it's hard as a suspension tuner I am forced to walk a very thin line. However, I have never gotten a customer from Tampa Racing, and don't expect to, as my fees are usually higher then the typical poster is looking to spend. (a typical day of me installing, modifying, and tuning your suspension for your driving style and needs can run several thousand dollars, including track rental and driver training)
but in my opinion that's the only way to do it "right" put the right parts together, tune them to make the driver confident, and then train the driver to make the most out of it, the beautiful thing is anyone can do this on their own.. it just takes longer without a coach. however one thing that infuriates me is the aversion to increased spring rate. If the driver is doing ANYTHING other then doddling down Dale Mabry to go get groceries then stock spring rates are not Scottish.
However I am more then willing to share my information with anyone that asks.

Thanks for asking.
Following the meet, I stopped at the first autoparts store that I saw and got a new belt. I then stopped at the first rest area and changed the belt before I left the parking lot.
I never said anything about this incident in these forums, but I thank all those people who stopped to express their concern. You folks are really good friends. I thank all those people who offered their help. TR people are pretty decent folks...........and each of you know that if it had been your timing belt, instead of mine, I would have stopped for you and offered my help also......-Bob

The person who asks the question is the best judge as to whether a post is informational and not the criticizers and haters. The person who reads the post and gains more knowledge than they had before is the best judge as to whether a post is informational. When a person has a different thought, can't they make their case with logic, instead of passing on insults?
Some false presumptions.....
1. When a person presumes that because they don't know how to do something, that neither does anyone else. I install aftermarket springs as well as modify suspensions, and I wish to point out that my modifications and installations work, as evidenced by the lack of complaints from drivers I have helped.
2. When a person presumes that hating, insults and criticism are an acceptable method of passing on a difference of opinion.
If we compare a few peoples trader ratings and the number of members
those people have recruited, it becomes REALLY clear as to who is making money from TR members................and who is contributing
to the TR site. -Bob
In your quote are things that both of us agree on.

Are you trying to insinuate that Jeff and I don't help people b/c we have 100+ TRader Ratings?
If so, I would consider selling "QUALITY" parts to someone (possibly to get their car running before they need to go to work) would be contributing a lot more then telling people false information over the internet...
Sorry Bob, youre not going to "win" this one...

ORly!!! Wow, you caught me on the right night for this topic
Chris said what he said perfect, but I'd like to reflect a little bit more on this on-going topic...................
1) "Recruited" Heh, I haven't recruited anyone Mr. senor.
My numbers are 154+ % legit.
In fact... I've made more then two fist fulls of very good friends from this site, because I helped them out in a situation that they had no idea how to get out of one or more times.
These are friends that will now practically drop pretty much anything to help me out if I'm in a bind and vice versa.
Hell, Isn't that the real reason TR is here ? ..... so people can make friends with others that have the same passion/hobby?
Yeah, I charged them (in most cases), But (A) it is always a very fair/cheap price compared to having a shop do it, (B) It is always set up to the customers time frame..... I make time for there issues, (C)I always back up my work.... Always!!! and (D)since when can you fill up your gas tank on a helping of free contribution and/or niceness.?!
This world revolves around Green, Bills, Dividend, Money, Coin, Currency, Etc., Deal with it or loose your ass.
2) Yes, I'll admit it, I have made money from TampaRacing,(since 2002.... to be honest....Probably a lot of money.. that's how I afford to modify my vehicles without having to use money that's dedicated to life's everyday bills) However .......this is also the reason I spend almost all of my free time helping TR, by Moderating/cleaning forums and keeping everyone from getting Racial or extremely argumentative past that set limit.
And ......Since when has it been illegal to make money off of TR anyway?
Isn't that what the For Sale forums are here for?
I hold a very demanding job that takes more then 65 hours of my time a week, Plus have a great Wife and two time consuming sons that require family time from me,......... I still make time to work/play/devote on TR an average of 15 hours a week and help people out without sharing information that is not accurate to today's standards. (like you have been guilty of)
By no means am I perfect in information that I give, opinions that I share, or labor that I offer, But isn't it funny that in all of the current posts circulating in the Chassis/Suspension forum, Your being called out in the info that your giving.
You started something that you can't back up................... Again.
http://www.tamparacing.com/forums/chassis-suspension-tech/481125-too-stiff.html
^^ Perfect example ^^
So Now that we have that out on the table, Tell me again why I'm not True to what I offer on this site?
This isn't a Popularity Game for me, It's a passion !!!
Always has been and always will be.
I don't pressure anyone to leave me feedback, let alone all positive..... And the same goes in Chris' case, He's Down to earth peoplez and I'm happy to know him. All started with a Valve Cover issue and sale back in the day
So in my final remarks tonight, All I can say is "Know your facts Jack"

Jeff's entire post.
Jeff, I seriously couldn't have said it any better myself!
As for Bob, I talked to you at the meet and you "seemed" to be somewhat intelligent but now after this statement... I really don't know! Its almost like you talk out of your ass and it ends up being a hit or miss on most topics!
