What is your definition of a small block ?

There seems to be a varied definition of small blocks these days. Heck even sites like Wikipedia gives different definitions.

My understanding is that anything under 360ci is a small block.

Thoughts ?

The cubic inches really doesnt have my say in if its a small block or a big block. You can in theory make a big block 121ci (2 liters) if you really wanted to, by giving it a stroke of a 1 inch (rough guess). Remember Cubic inches displacement= #of cylinders X 0.7584 X bore^2 X stroke

The only major difference on the chevy side of things are the difference in space from the center of one bore to the center of the next bore, which is larger in a bigblock hence making the block itself larger dimensionally.

i just consider what the factory base was. Never really had any issues with anything like that.

Chevy made a 396 ci big block, and a 400ci small block at the same time.

chevy also produced a 366 big block..

CID has nothing do with bb or sb. it is physicly the block size.

i have a small block ford 302 one day i will step up to a big block 390 i hope or even a 460
