I would do a rearmount setup.

Do some google searchs for STS and other remount turbo kit makers.

The sts kits are pretty cool. You can always do a custom built kit as well.

You need a set of header built for the turbo and a cross over tube if you thinking about a single turbo. Also going to need to get more fuel into the motor. If efi then larger injector if carb then a larger carb built for a blow thru set up an a bonnet for it. Then you need oil and possibly coolant lines to the turbo.
To control boost you need some form of a boost controller and a wastegate setup.
Should add a good intercooler as it can make tons of difference.

Or you can just take it to a shop and have them set it up for you.

going to have to make custom headers, this idea has been bouncing around in my head for a year now for my 70 chevelle with a 454,
I know how to turbo a car - I make some nasty 400+hp s2000 and with that knowledge i know i can take my 600hp na 454 to 1000+ with some boost. but the thought of a big blower sticking thru the hood just haunts me. I really want to do a 383 small block stroker with twin turbo setup in a late model blazer, pull 100 foot wheelies and do the 1/4 in less than 10, then drive the family to the movies. - that would be a nice weekend toy

that would be nasty. i have been doin a lot of research and think that i have the knowledge to do this, but how big should the turbos be, and then how boost should be run? cause i saw a kit that u can by. it has 2 t3/4 and they say with 15lbs of boost your motor will make 900 hp no problem, but thats a lot for me too believe.

boost will be dependant on your compression ratio, and intake charge temps, off course fuel supply and if your internals will handle it.

t3/4 of what ar. - that makes a big difference
for a bbc i would do a t4 only

if you can fabricate yourself you could save a ton of money. But beware turbo charging is not cheap. Expect to be in the several thousand dollar range before its all said and done. Do some research, figure out a budget and then plan to spend double that amount to get it right.

you could take some shorty headers and flip them forwards. not sure if its possible on big blocks though. you could always cut them up if needed.

i would do a single s480 t6 1.32 on that thing. and put it in the engine bay. will be capable of well over 1000hp easily. the borg warner ETT wheels are so damn efficient its not even funny

How high are you spinning your 454 and what kind of drivability do you want?/power do you wanna make?
Turbo suggestions should really be based off of that...as for as exhaust plumbing changes, oil feed and intercooler needs, I think everyone has you covered.

The extended tip borg S480's are quite nice...here is an S475 sitting next to my old VF34 (coated) and my empty dew ;)

but's a tad too small for my current build goals...
