This is shaping up to be my next project.
The intent is to engineer a little quality time with my oldest son on this one.
If the boy plays his cards right, he could find himself owner of the outcome of the project. ;)

Still not sure which direction we will go.
I want my son to play a major role in what we do.

Anyhow, here are the first set of pics..... notice the "For Sale" signs still in the windows. :nerd:

Looks clean as hell, with a crate motor to boot.

Next to the 69, the split bumper Camaros have always been my favorite.

hate that body style, but i never liked much of any car between ~70 - 90.

but it looks mint! and nice powerplant to work with.

how old is your oldest son? are you planning on doing a mild restore, or just leaving it and doing some more mods? (car looks good from afar, but theres always room for improvements :D)

He is 15. The project direction will be dependent on what he wants to do. I will guide him.

It could be simple motor, tranny and gearing mods.

Or if could be something a little more wild.

I personally like turbos and think though it would be a significant effort, it would be really cool old meets new project.

The intent is to afford us the opportunity to build something together.

I'm surprised nobody has noticed the 67 or 68 with the same paint scheme in the background

What's up with the car in the background with the welds??

Good luck with the new project.

Edit....* Didn't read above post :tard:

There were three Camaros there the day these pics were taken.
A 1968, a 1969 and the 1971.
The sweet 69 is Corey's.
What you do not see is the 1970 big block StingRay in the garage as well.
The Vette and the 68 belong to Bob.
Bob is the guy I am getting the 71 from.

beautiful...I love the split bumpers. If it were mine, I would fix all rust and do all body work, put on a full hotchkis TVS suspension, some nice wheels and tires.

The body is straight and rust free.
Suspension work may be in the cards.
Along with performance mods.

However, first I got to fix my truck.
Seems 6' of water reeks havoc on just about everything electronic and mechanical.
Spent the whole day trying to get it road worthy again.

Cecil. Same car I had as my first car. I can assure you high HP cars are not great cars for 16 year olds. I did a lot of stupid stuff in my Camaro but never got caught. My son will be driving he can't get in much trouble with.

Good luck though, Your projects always end up really cool though.

Where are the GOOD pics I took?! :D

Should be a good project. I did the same with my dad on the 69.

Personally I wouldnt make it a first car for your son, its gonna either get him killed or end up on a wrecker.

Keep it for a while and give it to him when hes older.

yeah i agree with every one else..wait tell hes like 25 or atleast 21 to give it to him..

i know at 16 i would of wrecked that bitch more then likely..u dont want him getting in trouble for street racing either..with the laws how there heading..pretty soon it will be the first time u get cought the car gets crushed.

just food for thought man

on a plus side you'll know what he's up too, my first car was a 69 that my father had driven as a daily driver for many years and he had people all over tampa who could recognize me. shitty thing was someone had a clone of ours and I once got blamed for his hot rodding

if your going to do heads get some all pro sb heads..they are the best flowing 23 degree head out there on the exh side..intake dont matter much because your forcing air in also u will want to go with the largest combustion chamber.

i can go into more detail for turbo setups if u want..i got a couple 1200-2600hp single turbo small block designed

Hook me up.
If we decide to go Turbo with this project, it will be my first Turbo Car.
Do you have a shop?

Suicidal Racing

nope..i just am a crazy fucker who thinks of insane combos for small blocks

my newest one is a 860-950hp n/a 412ci engine with cast intake and 18 degree heads..its going to get a plate system also.

it is very easy to get power with turbo stuff.

once race season is over there will be a ton of turbos for sale cheap..an 88mm will be fine for u..it will support 1200hp..go with a 600lift roller cam with like a 112 or 114 lobe..duration in the 250 range, bowtie block will be a must..u can get by with a stock 350 but once u get over 800hp the become if'y..but u can get a bowtie block used for about the same price the machining cost would be for a stock block.

all pro heads flow the best for the exh side but a set of brodix track 1s will do..i know some one who touched the exh side up on his in his radial car and he made around 1500 hp with a 88/98mm turbo.

even some darts, rhs what ever u can find used or cheap really..unless u want to flip the coin for brand new heads.

blow threw carb setups work..

headers u could get some shortys and cut the flanges off and weld on a thicker flange then fab the rest of the hot side and send it out for coating..

Id go this route. LQ4 block with L92 heads. 540 crank HP for under 5k. Plus its all stock GM. Stock short block, decent sized cam on stock heads. Nothing crazy to cause downtime.

(article is one issue behind. They swapped the stock 6.0 heads for 6.2 heads. $1250 brand new from GM.)

LQ4 Short Block - 480 HP For $3,775 - Car Craft Magazine (http://www.carcraft.com/projectbuild/116_0704_lq4_short_block/index.html)

That's sounds like a viable option for some decent HP without breaking the bank.

wow i just now found this thread...

very nice looking car man. i remember you saying something about wanting to build something with your son. you did good man.

where i do agree that giving a 16 year old that nice of a car that can't really be replaced and isn't really as safe as say a new suv with 27 air bags or something. if it got crashed up it would suck and later in life if he becomes a car guy, he would hate it too. but one idea would be to do some of those driving schools with him. that way you get to go learn to race and he learns car control.

i know sebring has one...

Your son doesn't know how lucky he is.
