I am interested in purchasing a set of extra wheels with auto-x DOT competition/streetable tires. My Focus SVT comes equiped from the factory with 17" wheels, but I was thinking about getting a used set of Focus ZX3 16" wheels to mount race tires on. Will this affect my class designation going to a smaller wheel for race?

My car has 215-45-17 tires, what size in a 16" wheel tire combo would be compareable?....I don't want a whole lot of wheel well gap.
If anyone knows anybody selling equipment like this or has any suggestions, please post. Thanks!

Also, are Nittos any good?

the SVT focus is in GS you cant go wrong with falken AZENIS that is a streetable tire with decent wear that is sticky as hell.

Well, since you don't seem to want to answer my initial questions:P

if you're still in stock class, you MUST use the stock size wheels. If you're getting a second set, I don't see the need for streetable tires, but oh well. Streetable is opinion based. I know a few guys running Kumho Victoracers as summer street tires. Whether that's your thing or not is what you have to decide.

If you want to go fast, you need to look at R compound tires.

falken azenis are great street tires, but wear pretty quickly. i have to change them about every 8-10 months.

Sorry man...haven't been on the computer in awhile....I was kinda hoping to stay in G-stock. But after pricing 17" race tires...damn, I might have to reconsider.
At this point I'm not planning on doing any mods, but if I did it would be a CAI, maybe underdrive pulleys and that's probably all. It already has a header and low restirction exhaust, lowered suspension, and all that blah blah blah.
What would be the next logical class for me and my car then if I went ahead and mounted race tires to 16" wheels. Would it be street mod?
I only mentioned the DOT legal RACE tires 'cause I figured I needed them to stay in a stock class.
If I could get a good deal on some 17" wheels and a a deal on some DOT race tires I'd probably go that route.

you need 17s to stay in stock....the next step is STS, and you can run whatever size wheels (under 7.5" wide)

How would my car fare in relativly stock form in STS? Of course we all know the driver is the biggest variable, but what are the limits to mods in STS? Just trying to weigh my options. Thanks for your help.

Rules on Street Touring can be found at http://www.moutons.org/sccasolo/Rules/street_touring.html#Street%20Touring%20Category

In Central Florida, you'd be going up against other "relatively stock" cars in STS. With the exception if Elliot Harvey comes to an event, you'll be up against Jeff Anderson, bone stock Integra GS-R with a rear sway bar, some Civics, Sentras....etc.

Just for clarification, the SVT does NOT have a lsd, correct?

A better alternative to the 16" Focus wheels would be the 6-spoke 16" Mercury Cougar wheels (the ones on my car in my sig). They are .5" wider than the Focus wheels.

Thanks for all yor help...After Gainesville this past sunday, I think I am going to scrap trying to stay in G stock. I will probably do mods eventually, so I'll just get the wheels and tires I can afford. We'll see. Thanks for all your input....Hey Alan good idea about the cougar wheels too.

Ben,

Since you said you pulled out like a million miles out of your AVS's on the Altima, I'm sure you could make some Azenises last. ;) If you have a 4x100 bolt pattern, my wheels should fit on your SVT. I have some 14" Azenises that your welcome to use this Sunday if you come. They are like 23" overall, which would be pretty similar to yours. Reply if your interested. I'm going to try to break in my Toyo's.

Hey man, I have the Focus SVT wheels on my SVT Contour. I have 225/45/17 Azenis on them. They work AWESOME for daily driving and autocross. They inspire so much confidence. Here's the website I found them on Cheap Azenis (http://www.ec-securehost.com/OnlineTires.com/Falken_AZENIS.html) . Also, a lot of 16'' rims will not fit with your SVT 300mm Brakes. I would check on that. Worse comes to worse, throw some 17'' Azenis on there, and go kick some ass!
