You saying you own 2 392's and 1 426??? Probably be better with a wedge motor on the street though, should run faster at lower rpms... Crate motors are a good bet, my 380 hp 360 crate ran 8.1's at sunshine with hardly any tuning, then 7.5's on a little 100 shot... and that's losing 50 hp to the 727.
FearThe4Doors

Mmmmm... 408".... smells like a 360 stroker!
you and me gotta hang!

Fear, oh yeah... NO runs on it yet. GCP, as for your dart, i think it's a 73 or 74.
FearThe4Doors
03-05-2003, 11:01 PM
does it run tho? where do you live in Pasco?
I saw you have the front end apart.. is this all during the process of the new engine??
Please share more about the car!
sb408dart
03-05-2003, 11:05 PM
Yeah, it's getting there. I have a 360 in it now, it runs. 408 could be in the car, just wasn't happy with the iron heads. Steering gear and control arms are laying on the floor in the garage, but that'll be back on over the weekend. I live in NPR, right off of Ridge and Little.

FearThe4Doors

did you piece together the engine with the MP crank and such? or did you get a kit? and where from if you did?
so what heads will you be putting on the 408?
sb408dart
03-05-2003, 11:10 PM
MP, I'll give it to him at about 195 degrees, that will be enough to deter him. Fear, I got the rotating assembly from Indy- Wiseco pistons, mp crank, eagle 3-d rods. It was gonna have ported j heads, but now i'm going with ported performer rpms.

may i ask how much indy's kit is? (dont feel like clicking 2 buttons to see myself)
sb408dart
03-05-2003, 11:18 PM
Uhhh, not sure. Right around 1,600 bucks i think, but not sure. It's unbalanced, but it'll balance pretty easily and cheaply with an external balance type damper... be a few hundred bucks to do it with a 318 or 340 damper though, the internally balanced deal.
FearThe4Doors
03-05-2003, 11:20 PM
yeah, ive had people spend $525 for the balancing alone... (internal)
Mancini has a special now for $1200 for a kit... im about to pick up the phone as we speak!
must... resist.....

Nah, Dodge's are meant to run. If it weren't for those tube chassis 'x' and 'm' class cars, we'd own super stock by a long shot... and we already know what the deal is with top fuel, top alky, alky/fc, fc, blah blah blah

I might make it out once a few weeks down the road, but the car is scheduled to have some work done at Gadget Race Cars pretty soon, be another week of o down time. Coming off the line without subframe connectors has become intresting, and the sunshine crew wants to see a cage.

7.49 for the cage, they might let ya slip through, as long as you dont get to squirlly. Not sure about the driveshaft loop, always a good idea to put one near the front though.
FearThe4Doors
03-06-2003, 12:07 AM
btw, what cam & compression will the 408 have?
sb408dart
03-06-2003, 12:12 AM
Cam is an mp 292/508, with 112 overlap... the improved driveability deal. I didn't go with a dual pattern since i'm gonna be running 3 inch pipes through dynomax bullets dumped before the axle. Compression should be right at 10:1. I'm gonna need to run some racing gas for the juice i'm pretty sure.
FearThe4Doors
03-06-2003, 12:19 AM
dual pattern = VTEC?!??!
LOL, kidding
is that a solid cam?
sb408dart
03-06-2003, 12:21 AM
Nope, hydrualic.
FearThe4Doors
03-06-2003, 12:22 AM
eiwwww
why? (not insulting you, just wondering)
sb408dart
03-06-2003, 12:38 AM
I might go to a solid cam later on, but i know someone running 7.1's 1/8 on the same cam... i could probably get it down to mid 6's (or even faster than that with more tire) on my setup and never need to pull off the valve covers. Fast is fast.

Same grill as on 74's...
sb408dart
03-06-2003, 03:47 PM
70-72 Darts have grills divided into 2 sections, with rectangular parking lights. 73 they started just having a rasied center section, and they moved the trim from off the hood, to the outer edge of the grill. Darts Sports and Demon grills coincide with Dart Swinger grills of the same year, Dusters are completely different than darts of the same year. An easy way to solve it... get the vin number.

damn I came in late. It sure as hell looks like an early Plymouth nose. My '73 Dart Sport has the pointed triangle nose...ugly as a moe fugger. The '70-'72 dart/demon noses were distinctly different. Of course, I have seen a few pics of swingers with that plymouth nose. Odd. Of course, who knows if those are really how they left the factory?

Clint
04-09-2003, 03:08 PM
was viper yellow... had a 318 that I spent over $3500 from summit buying parts... M1 alum. intake, Edelbrock chrome performer carb, Edelbrock cam, Mopar Perf. Ignition gimmick, ported polished, shaved portmatched heads/intake... never ran quite right.. it would run great for like 10 mins and then stumble all over itself (had high perf fuel pump too).. total investment including buying the car, body work, etc was over $8000.
I got way too frustrated with it and sold it to a guy up north for $3000.
Thinking back on it i think the only problem with it was that there was dust in the gas tank from when it was in the body shop, but I couldn't ever figure that out while i still had the car...
