Heading home last night on 75 a C5 vette came flying up on me at a good mph and he slowed. i went around one car and got into the same lane as him and just as i got into the lane he layed into it . I was in 4th and i was pulling on him and went to switch lanes and he did as well . went into 5 and was still pulling him :o and let out. He proceeded to keep on goin . Wish i could run into him at a streetlight and run him from a stop. Guess he was kinda pissed my little stang was pullin on his Vette:) :D .. I hope hes on the board .If you are then lets go from a decent mph not 75.. Jason :D

Were you drafting him...? Do you have gears...or big power mods...?
My reason for asking (forget the fact I have a C5) was every 5-spd stang I ever owned, modded, and raced laid down in the overdrive gear (.68 5th gear if I remember...)

Yes MiamiDave my car is Modded for a gear i have a 3.73. No i wasnt drafting him i leave that for the circle track;) As you can see in my original post that i couldnt believe that he didnt pull me when i went into 5th. LS1's make alot of mph.....We gotta hook up and run when i come back down to ft laud ill make a trip to miami so you can show me some of the spots down there. I normally head down to the Tower Shops off of University. Take Care. Jason

Yea, give me a hit, the tower's is where I tend to hang before going out on Friday.
Actually, you reminded me of the times when 5.0's with 3.08 rears could hardly hook...3.73's is steep gearing with a .68 5th just about matches the C5 .75 5th gear with 3.45 rear.
Hmmm-might have been an automatic also (which in 'vettes' are no slouch-they are even lighter than the 6-speeds and consistent out of the hole)!
They come standard with 2.73's and the option is 3.15, but they don't have the high speed gearing like the 6-spd...Good run either way...:)

Ill post back up here when i go back down there. I just came back up today from Lauderdale and will be back down in about a week or two. Jason

The Vette with 2.73's suck, especially in 4th.
I agree...Good Run!

Good kill. I would really like to run a C5 Convertible. I have ahad a few incounters on the streets with them that have all turned out in my favor, but I would like to run one at the track just to get a real good picture.

What I meant by "hit" was an email! You'll get no breaks from me!!:naughty:
Also, C5 'verts are actually a little bit lighter than the coupes which weigh a lot more due to the solid removable roof and the hatch.
Sully might chime in if he knows the weight difference (20-40lbs?)

Wow, looking at your 1/4 mile time & MPH, they must have been short races off the line, or you have added some mods. Most Vettes I am familiar with are turning very low 13's or high 12's with @ 108 & higher. The week point of the C5 is Goodyear Runflats; remove them and you easily pick up .2 or more in the 1/4. Of course, the majority of Vette owners are the 'Sunday driver' type & do not have a clue how to really drive.
We had a WRX running at Road Atlanta the last time we were there & he did a great job in the twisties, but always lost ground in the straights. I think they would make a great daily driver, decent power & good handling. The 2004's will be taking that up a notch too.
BTW if you want to run a convertible, I will let you know the next time I am in the area.;)

 I'll run you for fun as I will anyone else. Like I said, all the ones I have run have been on the street and by the time I shift into second they are shutting down. I guess they don't like being behind ;). I raced one from an 80mph roll and he barely pulled me. I doubt he would have been able to make up the differance I put on him out of the hole only pulling on me like he did at 80.

I can guarantee most Vette owners don't like "being behind." Just imagine imagine how those poors guys felt, losing to a Subaru. All-too-many buy Vettes and really don't understand the competition. 20% of Corvettes sold have a 2.73 rear, which sucks! But most of the owners don't know better. :( :( I think the 1/4 mile time for that is almost 14.0.

Well most C5's turn 107-108 in the quarter and cut 2.1-2.3 60 ft on the GY RF's (I can't tell you how bad they are-or how worse they get after a year).
I could definitely see you holeshot and carry it to 60mph, and even the 1/4 with you mid 13 time. But, your low mph is where most 'vettes will eventually kill you-top end just after the 1/4.
Still that little car can really be an ego bruiser!!
Oh and Sully, I think most C5 A4 2.73's can run a 13.6-13.8 in the 1/4. But there is one guy with that setup turning a 12.9 completely stock (but at 104 mph). Of course, this is an anomaly.

GM reports the '97-00 2.73's at 13.9. 12.9 stock 2.73 is unreal. :o :o

Trust me, I know what my car can do and I know what will beat me. My car sucks at top end and it loses all gas after the 1/8th mile. One thing you have to realize is that I'll run my same sub 2 second 60'times and same 1/4 times on the street just like I do at the track. If someone races me from a stop and shuts down early, that is their fault not mine. I don't think my car is some great gift to drag racing, just the opposite actualy, ...I was just stating what I had seen on the street and what I would like to run at the track because I want to see for real in good, race conditions.

thats the beauty of AWD...to an extent, i totally hate running people from a roll, just because of the drivetrain loss..i believe its 25% of the crank hp makes it to the wheels in AWD...possibly less. thats the reason for such shitty MPH up top :( they are great 1/8 mile cars, cause you dont really feel it slow down like ya do in the 1/4

Sorry man-wasn't baggin' on you. Your car is very fast (mid 13's is serious business, and I imagine you are very consistent with those times at the track).
I dig the Suburus, and if things were different that would be one of my top cars to purchase.

No problem, I've got thick skin ;).
Jason, I'll run you. I'm not scared to lose a race or two, it's all in fun. Can I pick the weather conditions though?
