Is Gary being sneaky? 400+ hp and 400+ ft-lbs on 22 psi with a 8V SOHC head?????????

Nowhere does he specifically state which car/engine made this dyno run (either that or I am oblivious). Is it the Reliant? I could have sworn I read today on his site that he skipped dynoing the Reliant because he didn't want to tow it in the weather. Maybe I am just crazy.

Nonetheless these are some insane numbers, and very impressive for 22psi. Just when you think the 16v hybrids are going to start overrunning the turbododge world, someone goes and raises the bar higher for the 8V.

Also note 22psi is also hinting that this engine may be using one of Gary's custom cals. If I remember correct the Relentless 3bar cal has a 18psi and 22psi settings, somewhat like the S60 dual boost settings (uses a jumper).

must have VTEC.. you can almost see it kick in at 4500rpm

2.2 engine with auto transaxle, 2 piece intake, ported factory turbo exhaust manifold, hybrid turbo, multi core intercooler, production electronics (recalibrated), 72 pph injectors.

No nitrous.

8V head is a one off piece with weeks of labor invested- Flows 240/185 at 28 depression and the cam is custom.

Lift is LESS THAN Super 60.

Engines are packages that are hamstrung by their weakest parts- There is no "silver bullet" (except nos) in a turbo application that is going to give you a magical amount of power unless the whole package is considered.

Insane I tell you. Looks like Gary finally spilled the beans, its not one of his, but damn impressive. Supposedly the person that owns this engine is pretty good at making 8v heads flow, as if it wasn't obvious from the 400+ hp at only 22psi ;)

Imagine you owned this engine and ran a 3bar cal from Relentless set to 22psi, it would be the ultimate streetable SOHC turbo dodge :D

but then I would be thinking.... why? Unless you just LOVE to brag about still being SOHC.. imagine the money for a week's worth of porting? You could put a 2.4 in there easily, then have WAY more potential. To each his own.

we have this debate all the time among honda guys, yes you can turbo a sohc and make good power, but swapping in a dohc gets you a better starting point more tunability and more potential due to better head design and flow characteristics.

Definitely good points but at this moment having someone port a head for you involves a lot less guess work than dropping a 2.4L Turbo into a older turbo dodge, or building a hybrid 2.2/2.5 engine with a 2.4 head. I also imagine that most of the people who already drive SOHC equipped turbo dodges that run well would rather not spend the time converting to a DOHC setup. In my eyes:

down time = money
custom conversions = extra down time

Don't get me wrong I like the DOHC engines, but I also like to play devil's advocate sometimes

yeah i also agree i got my car set up to run 12's at the next meet and i'm also working on a hybrid motor yet i can see it now its going to cost several hundred's or maybe more to go 11's and probably will cost the same if i invest into my SOHC to run 11's  :?

im in the same boat. If I had a stock SOHC now, it would be different. I'd put the couple hundred into a hybrid. But i already have a pretty stout SOHC. When everything's said and done with it, it should be in the 12s solid at least. I dont have much interest in making the car run quicker than that.. (now), so why create a custom engine install to go the same speed. I dunno, i'll stay SOHC for now especially since i have other projects to finish first. But I still have this Avenger head here for future projects.
