This is, according to this Milwaukee based web-site, the car classifications for the 2003 season. As always, it's your responsibility to know and a call to the SCCA & $15 will get you an '03 rule book. LINK: www.scca-milwaukee.org/Solo/carclass2003.pdf
Thanks SCCA, now I have the new Z in my class :wtf: ?? (+47hp/+ 120 ft./lbs. of torque, oh yes and the lightweight 18's & Brembos). Thanks. Sounds like an A-stock car to me.

You have NOTHING to be afraid of. You still own THE car to have in B-stock.
A-stock? There's no freaking way it'll run with a E46 M3 or Boxster S. It's still overweight.

The man has a point. MBC puts you into SM2. Not like it matters much in Central Florida...

Screw the Cooper S. Hope and pray that nobody decides to buy a no option new Celica, or that Per decides to run CFR West events in his older Celica.

Yes, I'm bitchin'. I drove one at FSF in Sept. and was within a few 10ths of my cars times the first time I drove it. It is a bit of a pig, but is really easy to drive and has some good low end grunt. I won't bitch any more until my buddy George starts beating me. $$ always helps and I still need to hook my car up as much as possible when I actually have some (within the B-Stock rules, of course). George, you here? 350Z :monkpiss:

Chris, the Mini S in GS is some bullshit. You're right. By the way, I still owe you some beer for picking up my Gainesville trophy for me. Unless Cory paid up already, we'll hook you up on the 15th.

ok i have a sohc240 and it says all 240s are GS, but i have a 'aftermarket' muffler on the factory piping, (ya ya i know) its more of a look than really performance but does that bump me from stock class? i also have strut bars. thats all.

Strut bars bump you to STS. The muffler would have been fine for G-stock.
STS is the next slowest class you can goto.
BUT, if this is still only your first or second event, id suggest running in Novice.

Manual boost controller sir.
Well, as I have stated once my repairs are complete and I can adjust my boost again I will be happy to switch.
Can anyone post which mods will bump my car from ASP to SM2?

Some of the current posts on the Evolutoin yahoo group have some very notworthy, expirienced people saying the 350Z "could" be a class killer. So I somewhat retract my earlier statement.

i think that IF I owned an s2k i'd be more concerned with the move from AS to BS of the M-coupe and M roadster than the 350Z.

Too bad Jamal is still ASP. He might have done really well.
Ian, from Tally, just bought his S2k, so we should see him more often at CFR events. Hopefully have some strong B-stock action locally. That'd be VERY cool.
SM should become cool this year, with Neal's Scirocco, and Mike King's Civic. Mike has already bought the JRSC for it too.... more power in that car should be fun....to watch.:)

The 315 Hp. versions are still in AS. My bitching about the 350Z was more of a shot against some owners I know. I'm pretty confident that slapping some Hoosiers or VictoRacers on the 18" Rays ("Track" model)will make a fast and sticky class winner almost every time. It's still a great class and I think a well prepped MR2T or S2K will still sneak in a few wins. I'm really only interested in other S's. I'd like to have a way to bring a floor jack and an extra set of tires out to events. You may see me in a GTI R32 when they arrive next summer. It'll be an AWD 240 Hp 3.2 VR6 and should be an amazing track car. Link here to read about the DSG transmission (sequential dual clutch, F1 type tranny) www.vwvortex.com/. If money allows, the new 3.2 Audi TT Quattro Coupe would be sweet. But, in this economy, I may be riding a moped before long.
I'm thinking that the Neon SRT4 will be a tough car to beat (215 Hp. with an LSD).
My thoughts....
a) the Neon SRT4 doesnt have a LSD, nor does it have any camber...hence, its going to be a slow STOCK class autocross car.
b) the fastest B-stock MR2T in the nation, the Carter Thompson MR2T is being sold, and its being bought by a certain SouthWest Florida young autocrosser. It'll take some time for "him" to learn the car, but we'll see how that comes into play.
c) It "seems" as if the 350Z is probably more suited to A-stock, but when you look at National level results, the times for both classes are almost nearly identical. As the 2nd place BS National guy said, "B-stock is going to be a lot of fun next year." The lack of available front camber, and the weight of the 350Z are it's downfalls. We'll see how much they come into play. Are there some local autocrossers who've picked up a "track" version yet?
d) never discount BMWs. Their numbers NEVER really add up to what they can do in real life. Technically a 318is *shouldnt* be able to win H-stock, and a older E30 318is *shouldnt* be able to win in G-stock...but both can and do.

Yep, you're right about the Bimmers, and I never dissed 'em. I guess the Z4's will stay in the same classes, since the engines carry over. I had a 1985 535is a few years back and I swear it would be an awesome track car. The E30 bodied 3's had suspension geometry that seems to lend itself to carrying speed through the twisties. And the, relatively, light front in the 318's make it corner even better. I'm a big BMW fan but the two I had kept having service bills starting at 4 figures. The engines were bullet-proof but eveything else went to hell. A relative is driving a '91 735i that I had and spent $2,700 at Reeves Fri. The next M-Coupe should be a sweet A.S. car. One of my neighbors is trying to get permission from his wife to bring his Z-3 (3.0) to GIR this Sunday. I'm surprised there aren't more around at the events.
350's: I know 2 buds that have the track model. One will definitely be out at the Auto-X's and the other is more into big chrome wheels and thumpin' bass, than driving. I hope to see many of them. I try to talk my S2K, Civic Si, and GTI customers into taking up the "hobby" (read: addiction) but haven't had a single one show up yet. I'd love to see a B.S. field with five to ten S's. That would push me to get an extra set of wheels, put an aggressive alignment on, and let Comptech rip me off on their $750 front sway bar.
Anyone read up on the DSG tranny? I fear that true manual trannies are going to die before I do...

I thought the Neon did have an LSD, but you're right. Too bad the Mazdaspeed Protege gets all the good crap, but only 170 Hp. That's a similarily priced car. I'm not well versed in Mazda, but some very stock Protege's beat my ass every time. I've developed a Mazda aversion, I guess. All the Miata's beat my ass too. The Miata is sure to get a new "Speed" version sooner or later.

Hehe...it just so happens that the only Protege running in the local area is driven by a VERY good driver, Jason Minehart. I seemed to have decent success in my STS first gen as well.
Unfortunately for the Mazdaspeed Protege, it has the same issue as all the other Proteges, namely, lack of camber adjustment in stock form. You can MAYBE get 1 degree of negative in the front. This simply isnt enough to run with the big boys Nationally in D-stock. On a transitional course though, I think its the BEST D-stock car out there. On a sweeper course, its a mid-pack car at best. Anything beyond D-stock, and all the cool stuff that Mazda decided to put on the car become useless, as there are "BETTER" aftermarket versions.

I led this thread way off of the initial topic. After reading through it I just wanted to state I love cars, period. I'd continue Auto-Xing if I had to drive a Chevette. :monkdance: Good enough apology George? :stickpoke:
:notworthy: 350Z...
It's fun to discuss the perceived potential of many cars, but it's only an opinion and the driver is probably 85% of the equation. I don't want to come off as some arrogant know it all. I'm probably driving my car at 6 to 7/10th's of it's potential at any given event, maybe. What's worse is that I only have it set up to 8/10th's. I suppose I shouldn't ever worry about another cars' advantages until I'm maxing out my car, the rules, and my own driving potential.
I've gone from '00 Civic Si to heavily modded Saturn SC2 ('01), to S2K, in about two years. My two Bimmer sedans were the only, modern, RWD cars I've had and 10 mos. into the S it is a much different beast.
See you all @ GIR.

I agree. I love discussing what can and can't be competitive in whatever classes.
