The acoustic feedback system (afbs) uses small microphones in the rear speakers to listen to the sound and reduce distortion and improve sound clarity. At the heart of the system is a small black box which contains a small powered amplifier which needs to be removed to upgrade the system. So essentially get a new head unit and run new speakers straight from there and you won't have any problems

The deck is powered (no external amps). The speakers just need to be removed and replaced. You can get adapter harnesses from metra to use the factory speaker plugs. You can also just cut the ends off and put .110 and .205 ends on them. The car has 6.5 in. speakers up front and 6x9's in back (at least this is what the 97-01 Preludes have.)

hmm vetty interesting.....why do you have to remove the factory amp? can you just connect the aftermarket speakers to the factory amp in back or no?

in theory you could just use the same wires coming from the amp and retain the power for your speakers. but more than likely if you buy a quality deck the rms power will power your new speakers better than using the stock amp.
