They both are really good for rap, but the L7 will not sound as good unless you install it in a sealed enclosure and then you will lose ALOT of bass. We have installed both for years and we like the Type R the best.

Ive been reading about these subs for a long time and i understand L7's are SPL and Type R's are SQ, But are there better subs I can get brand new or maybe even used for $275 for 2 10's

In my experience with the L7 it is a totally different sub in a sealed box vs a ported box, much more than most other woofers. In the ported enclosure they get quite loud and boomy but the SQ is pretty bad, and in sealed the SQ is actually pretty good but the output is almost all lost. The type R subs have decent output and SQ in either enclosure, but in this case I'd prefer the R's in a ported enclosure.

Big questions:
What type of vehicle?
How much room do you want to give up?
Do you have a experienced enclosure fabricator?
What size & type of amplifier do you have?
