OK what size are the bolts that bolt the front motor mount bracket to the block. Not the sokcet size I know that, I need the thread size. I am in the middle of making a roll around engine stand (not going to be pretty) and I am attaching via the mount holes. I only could get 2 bolts from the yard so home depot is the next cleanest, closer step. maybe a 15mm thread width? 1.5mm pitch? Cant find it anywhere so far. I would take one of the bolts but they are kinda holding the engine steady now :|

:nono: you should have done that before you bolted the engine on :D

haha,
on a side note I think something is out of balance in the truck.
at about 50mph it gets a weird thrumming sound.
it has shaken 3 tranny bolts loose that I'm aware of.
one of them punctured the oil filter while driving down 19, that was fun.
the other 2 were holding the starter, the bottom one stripped out the bolt hole in the tranny the top one just got a little loose, but it was enough to make the starter grenade in a shopping center, let me tell you how much fun it was to replace a starter on the truck with headers in a parking lot with limited tools.

See if the rear tranny mount is bad. It can cause the tail shaft to wobble around seeming like a bad u-joint. Did we replace that when we swapped the motor in? :dunno: also make sure the driveshaft is noticeable (sp) bent, or dinged.

I think we did the tranny mount, I know we did the motor mounts.
also it looks like at least one of the torque converter bolts is missing.

Thats always good for a nice smooth idle.

Hmmmm, not good, regardless that brian thinks it makes a good smooth idle :P Make sure no others are backing out. Cnn get nasty quick if one hits the block. Check the u-joints also. And/Or rev the engine kinda slowly up to the approx~ rpm at 50? and see if it comes back, if so, prolly the tq converter area. See if the TQCovert threw a weight also. I hate tracing vibes :x :verysad:

.808. do you need the actual thread size? Or just what size hole you can put it thru?

Thread size. Gonna hit home depot for a couple more to bolt the engine to my make shift stand. I know they are roughly 9/16 in dia for the hole. (15mm)

god damnit all to hell, drove the truck for about 20 minutes last night and blew up another starter. I hate my truck! Time for some heli coil shit, anyone ever use this stuff? how does it work?

808 used it on the Barracuda head, call him and talk to him he'll tell ya all about it.

they don't sell it in a big enough thread for the starter bolt at discount so I bought a longer bolt and a nut, this should be entertaining.

Looks like a normal tap to me, so why is it called a helicoil?

CrazyMoparGirl
09-12-2002, 12:59 AM
It's a kit with a "special" tap. 1st you have to drill out the hole to clear the old threads 2nd you use the "special" tap to cut new threads. The Heli coil itself looks kinda like a spring that threads into the new threads you cut. But on the inside of it it is the correct threads for the threads you had to repair. It's almost like a resleeve for threads. (The reason for the special tap is it is the same thread as the thread you are fixing but at a thicker diameter to allow the heli coil to thread)

that was like 20 bucks if I remember correctly from looking at it at 7am.
and it was just the tap!
fuck that, it's nut and bolt time.
