anybody know if there's any kind of remotely rally-like activity that goes on around these parts? i kind of want to get into the sport, but can't find anything around here...

I have been looking into this, as ralley is my first love and I've got a purpose built ralleycar in the works. SCCA doesn't hold any around here, no one has volunteered to start a ralley programme. A year or so ago there was a ralleycross type thing held in Stark, FL at a ralley school located just off US301, I unfortunately missed it :( so I don't have any more info on the school or the event.

hmn back roads of south/central Flo... dirt roads with not many people
i used to go out to a beach a night and run my celica there...
beach was like 5 miles long and had mix of sand/gravel/dirt etc.
Honey moon causeway... that was fun

I believe we were talking about sanctioned legal events, not tearing up a public beach for your own amusement.

there were some people looking for help to organize one who came to one of the FSF autox events to give their pitch. Don't remember exactly who it was. You might try posting to the CFR-west mailing list... (there's a link to it in one of the sticky threads in this forum) someone there is bound to remember.

The event last year was held by Mastro Subaru at Ivor's Rally school. It was a lot of fun, but pretty challenging for a first timer :D
Call Ivor's school and see if he has any open track days. Here is the web site. http://www.gorally.com/
VideoNasty, what type of Rally car are you building?

my father is building a 68 Lancia Flavia Pinnifarina 1500 Coupe` for SCCA Vintage Ralley, for me to drive(when its done, kinda like the project that never ends, I think the last time I was in Pittsburgh he was starting to finally prime it for painting Lancia racing colors)
I am still trying to decide exactly which one of mine will make the best ralley car. possibly the Beetle, or the 200SX.(the CRX would probably be the best but, Shawn wants that for a super sleeper street/ autoX monster)

the 924 would also make a good rally car. problem is that the suspension is probably too stiff for rally.
the M471 option was originally designed to homologate the old type 933 SCCA D-production cars (of which there were only 16 made).
the M471 option was only ordered on 500 924s in 1979.

Concidering the difficulty of finding suitable parking lots for auto-x I can see how finding a suitable rally area would be even more difficult.

maybe mastro will do another one this year...
i'll see if i can find out
they were looking to do another one.. but its very hard to find somewhere to doit.. i competed in the one in Stark last year.. the course was basically a reall rally stage..and as such you cant really drive 100% with your daily driver without fear of breaking it..
this year there is a Subaru of Americas sponsored AutoX for subarus only in Jacksonville instead..
Pete at mastro basically couldnt find any backing.. couldnt get SCCA sponsorship and most importantly couldnt find anywhere to host it.
if peopel can find places to host it.. i will take that to Pete (i knwo him pretty well) and see if he is willing to do it again... but we'd need a place.. and some decent interest.
Zate.

I'd take my truck out if it was ruff terrain or my car if it was what we talked about before, just a dirt field with a cone course set up.

hell, I'd run the SE-R on any course(if I break something just gives me a damn good excuse to get a new thing that broke :D )
I have been looking for possible places to hold a RallyX(living in Lakeland gives me some oppotunity) lots of cow fields around here

I have been living here in St Pete for the last three years, and I haven't seen any thing even remotely resembling rallying. I really would like to get into the sport, but without a car I can't do much, so if anyone needs a good navigator, I am your man. I've experienced several rallies through preperation of my cousin's Subaru, so I know my way around a rally car, and I have experience in plotting routes and taking pace notes.
So if anybody needs a navigator, gimme a buzz. 8)
