Im sick and tired of my stock stereo with cardboard speakers...... I want to be able to hear my stereo with the windows down. I really don't know much about car audio, so I'm asking for your help. I'm not looking for the absolute best equipment, however, I dont want something that is going to break or blow up. The only parts I'm going to need are: Head unit, speakers ( for a EK hatch front door and back hatch), and a amp. I have 2 12's already at the house. I need some information on which brands are decent and where to go to purchase and have it installed. Thanks in advance for any reply.
* Also..... would it be better to buy from something like crutchfield and have it installed or would it be smarter to just go somewhere?
Thanks again.

Do you want an amp for your 2 12's or do you have one? or what's goinon with them?
okay.
First, I will say that you shoudl support your local shops. not circut city/best buy.
the little guys will have better prices etc.
So you wanna hear the music on the highway withthe windows down?
So lets go alpine or pioneer, latley they have been doing good, and alpine is just great.
speakers? Go listen and get what sounds good to you. I perosnally have JL audio althe way thru. 300/4 xr and tr series.
I high recocmend the JL 300/4 for the mids/highs sounds great can get loud..
really tho, go tot he smaller shops, and LISTEN. listen to what YOU like.

Yes I'm going to need a amp for the 12's. I may only use one. I don't want the "best" stereo in Tampa, just something that hits.
As far as the head unit, alpine really doesnt have much that I like. I'll check out pioneer now.
JL audio I know make a good quality speaker, but am I going to be able to afford a head unit, amp, and mid/high speakers for under around 7 or 8 hundred $$$?? Let me know.

lets seew hat I can crunch here.
first off, Head unit, yu want anyhign in particular? mp3? fancy display? speacial fatures?
all prices are approximate
Kicker KX550.3 400
you cna round up some rockford fosgate speakers all around for somewhere around 200-250
DEH-P7400MP aurnd 300 mp3 player fun stuff
thats with some decent stuff there tho.
If you dont want the mp3 head unit, and waht not you cna probaboy cut 100 or so dollars off.
or of you wanna go another route.
you cna forgo aplifying the rear speakers, seeing as they only provide rear fill and get a good 4 channel, you run the rear speakers off the head unit and there ya go, fornts get nice crisp slear power subs get power everyoneis happy, and you shave off like 200 bucks

Personally Ebay is your best bet on a budget. I would go to the store and look at CD Players and listen to speakers. Find a head unit that you like, like the looks, the way it functions and has the features you want. I like Alpine also as well as Kenwood. I recommend one that has 4Volt (or higher)preamp outputs. You may want to consider one that plays MP3's as well if you have a CD burner in your computer. The front speakers should be good speakers, do not skimp here, get a decent set of components (separate woofer and tweeter). I like MB Quart. I think you can fit a 6 1/2 speaker in your door, this set would sound real nice http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1369703369 . Its $219. I have the 5 1/4 version and love them. The rear speakers can be inexpensive coaxials ($50 or so), they are only for rear fill and will just be run off the radio. As for the amp, get a midgrade 4 channel amp with a built-in crossover. This Sony http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1370379097 is $169 and may be fine. It does 75 watts into 4 channels. Run 2 channels to your front speakers, 75 watts to each front speaker will make them sound great and play very loud without distortion. Run the other 2 channels to the 12" subs. 75 watts will make them sound good and keep up with the front speakers but don't expect to shake the earth. For wiring I would get an amp wiring kit like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1369493182 . It contains 4 Guage wire which is overkill for the amp but allows you to rum more power later without having to replace the power wire, also the RCA cable is decent and should not have any noise. You will also need a radio wiring harness adaptor for you car, you can get this at Wal-mart for around $7. This type of set up should sound real good and have a good balance of bass to mids/highs. If you have more to spend, get a better amplifier than the Sony I showed. What ever you do, do not only amplify the subs, you will have lot of bass but it will sound bad because your mids/highs will be unable to keep up if you are just running them from the radio. You can do the install youself, just follow the directions from the wiring kit and the components you purchased and then have someone like me or 93ex fine tune it for you. PM me if you have any other questions.

go with boston acoustic coaxials or separates, use an amp with a good signal to noise ratio (> or = 100db), good RCA's, use all precautions to stay clear of engine noise, maybe dynamat depending on vehicle type and output power .... MTX was bought by Rockford Fosgate, both brands of amplifiers now use exactly the same components and are identical in output efficiency and reliability. MTX amps are usually a little cheaper.

First off I am a DJ and I can help you a lot in this area! I would first rec that you go to Car Audio Deals (http://www.caraudiodeals.com), they have some pretty good deals and cheap shipping. Now with the whole install thing, it is not big sweat at all... if you are confused or need help use crutchfields install guides which you can find on their website. They also have videos, if you still have trouble with installing or finding the right type of system just send me a message and I will help you from there. Good luck!

Because they don't go in every thread saying in one form or another "Come to our shop, we sell "X" product for "X" amount" as an answer to the problem.
Toby has done TONS for this small community, he deserves anything he gets or can get.

P057 is correct (in his own "special sensitive" way hahahaha-love that guy!), be very careful how much you advert here. You must help this community alot and they will see what your shop does or whatever. When you have been around for awhile, and have helped out enough, you will get the calls from these guys when they need it. If you are genuinely helping out, this community will come to you. If not, they will BASH you (rightfully so IMHO). Tread lightly grasshopper...
