I have a 91 si and its been in my back yard for a few years and i go out every once in a while and start it up...when i went to start it a few days ago getting ready to try to sell it, it wont start,(its always started up on a dime but now it wont at all) on first crank it actually sounds like it is about to start and fires and you hear it pushing exaust out like everything is fine then it just goes back to sounding like it has no gas and just keeps cranking over...it has gas( when i loosen the bolt to the fuel rail gas is present) and spark and i did a compression test and compression is fine...it only sound like it is going to start on the first try of the day or after its been sitting for a lil bit but if i try and then try again it just cranks over and over...if anyone can help me out give me a call at 727-565-7729 or reply..thanks alot

 

How old is the gas in that thing? Does it smell like turpentine?

 

id guess bad gas too, jus went thru this with a 91 hatch-

 

the gas i had in it was very little and it started and then it pretty much ran out the i put a gallon and a half of new gas just to make sure there was some in it and it still doesnt start almost seem like its not grounded right but it attempts alittle bit and then just rotates like no gas...also i dont hear the fuel pump when i turn on the ignition but not sure that is the problem...

 

if the fuel pump wasnt kicking u wouldnt have any fuel to the motor i believe. have u checked the fuel filter? and are the plugs fouled at all?

 

I bet the main relay is going bad. Do you hear three clicks? I think you are getting fuel pressure from the initial 2 second prime but when you go to start fuel pump doesnt come back on. That is why it attempts to start then nothing.

 

^ good possibility! Can't you just pull the fuel line and turn the ignition on and the gas should flow?? If not the pump is bad?

I went thru the same scenario with a 02 mustang gt...when it sat, it wanted to start, but the fuel pump was gone!

 

im about to pull the line to see if its flowing when i crank it over....Boosted do you mean when i turn the car on i hear three clicks from the dash almost a buzzing...or is that nothing...? thanks

 

Use this as a guide. Note part in first paragraph, it sounds like your problem. Its a good place to start.
