Default ways to take water & alternator belt off

Hey all this is related to the 420a.

I've read that one should remove 2 bolts from the alternator to adjust it to take the belt off. I can not reach those damn bolts for the life of me. is it better to go from the bottom or the top?

Also for the a/c unit what bolts do i remove to take that belt off. I've been reading on neon forums but they don't have that issue because they have more room in the bay when it comes to the alternator. Thanks for the help. ( i also bought a manual and i does not even mention the removal of the a/c belt)

wow really? you don't know how to take belts off? you should read some more..

the two alternator tensioner bolts are on the top bracket of the alt.
for the ac/ps belt theres a tensioner between the ac compressor and bellow the powersteering pump.

it's honestly not that damn hard.you loosen the bolt inbetween the fender well and the bracket which will allow you to loosen or tighten the bolt by the firewall to loosen the alt and for the belt to come off.

i know its a real pain taking the alt belt off. i always take the 15mm gearwrench and reach from the top and loosen the nut on the side, then jack the car up and reach up under with a 13mm and loosen the adjuster and watch the belt get loose. its really easy once you figure it out. just watch out hitting the frame and powerwire for the alt ( learned from experience it sucked lol )

^lol. You shouldve said "make sure you disconnect the battery before doing any work even close to the alternator or battery itself"

do you have a 420 tho? i've honestly never had an issue with that belt. i personally think the ps/ac tensioner bolt is more of a pain. thus why i deleted them but it shouldn't be that hard.

Well the tools are the wrong size if he was talking about the 4g63. Alternator tensioner assy bolts are 12mms.
