hey everyone - i am going to be getting my license in a couple days. i am going to want to go to the track sometime just to see what kind of times i can run - even though i know my car is slow :verysad: lol - what is the best launching technique that you guys use that gives you the quckest launch?? and i understand that it will take lots of practice but i would like to know the best way to do it from the begining. thanks

You want to launch high enough to get the wheels spinning a bit while youre still accelerating, but not just sit there and do a burnout. Keep in mind that a drag strip is much stickier than any street you'll be on so you cant really practice on the street. Your goal at the strip should be ~2.0-2.2 consistent 60' times with a FWD on street tires.

FWD is a mystery to me. I can tell you how to lauch the piss out of a RWD car.

the trick is if you are running a slick. to heat the tires up then rev your shit up to your rev limiter and then dump the clutch. 98% of mustangs will dead hook with a good slick. That should pull you a 1.6xx or better.

if you look at my 1st post you will know that I am talking about a rwd car, i.g. a mustang.

I was just wonder what would be the best technique that could be used for a launch with a auto RWD... for example i wanna run a '93 lincoln mark viii its got aftermarket tire that are Z rated that has the same 4.6 as the mustang just to get some times on it. thanks

hold the brake and press the gas down as far as you can without the car moving then when it hits green let off the brake and hit full throttle, id ask hondahunter97 hes a pro :D

Ummm, don't wait for the green or you'll get creamed on R/T. Go on the last yellow. By the time your head tells your foot that it's the last yellow and your foot responds and the car gets to moving, the green will have flashed and with any kind of luck, you'll be off with a good R/T while the other guy is still sitting there waiting for the green light..

of course you'll probably be chasing both axles down opposite sides of the track if you do this too many times to a stock axl'd car... :D
in all honesty try different RPM launches, each car responds different to different air pressures and different launch RPMS. For example, my old 90gt liked to be let go at 4500-5000 depending, and I was running about 13lbs of air in the slicks...
