First find where on the exhaust manifold the O2 sensor is. Follow the wires from the 02 sensor back to where it connects to the harness. Remember to tap the source off the car harness and not the O2 sensor wires itself, otherwise you have to wire it back in with each new O2 you replace.

Its a new car, so its probably a 3 or 4 wire sensor. I am pretty sure, you'll wanna tap it into the harness wire that is connected to the black wire from the O2 sensor.

As for power wires, I run my positive power off the stereo positive (red wire) and my negative ground (black wire) to the chasis (basically any metal part of the fender inside the engine bay)

It's a 4 wire O2 sensor, make sure you tap into the O2 sensor before the cat not the one after it. The one after it, I beleive is just there to check for the cat efeectiveness.

i would say to run the 12+ right off the battery. And make sure you have a very very good chassis ground or just run that wire to the battery also.

BTW L0r1, i finally changed the O2 on Karens neon. THanks for telling me the trick, BUDDY!

I took it out from the underside and it when alright. The thing came out VERY easy, not like the turbo cars. But i just couldnt get the damn thing started back in the hole between not being able to see the hole, the awkward angle, and the wires off the O2 hitting against the airbox or whatever.

I got a little frustrated after fiddling with it for a good while and went upstairs and pulled the airbox, the silencer thing, the coil pack bracket, and the airbox bracket. Next thing i knew, the O2 hole was sitting there looking right at me smiling! So it took all of 2 seconds to get it in then. Next time I'll know!!

Yeah but if you go this route won't it always be on? I used the stereo on mine because it only gets power when the ignition is on :)

Yeah, it would be on. But if the car's not running, it wont be showing anything. I think the positive wire is more like an amplifier that uses the O2 signal as the source, then powers the lights with it. I origionally had my Autometer AF hooked up to the stereo power in my Daytona.. actually, i think it was the 12+ for there stereo.. but anyway, when i would turn on the lights at night, my O2 reading would drop 0.05v at least.

How many wires does a A/F meter have? For some reason I just cannot remember!!??

I know the autometer one I have has 3 wires: 12+, ground, and sensor tap. I imagine that most of them are like that.

Heres my trick. I get mad as hell, beat the crap out of the cat with a sledge, then put a header on with the O2 already installed. The second O2 sensor isn't used anyways so just unplug that one.

You are correct. My Dawes and my NE Dyno one are the same.

DUH, man i went fucking blank there. Shit I even built my own A/F gauge. oh well, BTW as a trick since I didnt see it mentiones is instead tie the gauge into the o2 signal wire at the computer instead of running a wire through the firewall

Its pretty much unavoidable if you have a SBEC or SMEC car, in which case you pretty much have to go through the wall.

Of course I don't know if that applies to neons, where is the computer on these cars?

Oh and you wouldn't happen to have a schematic for that A/F meter you built? I just stopped by a place called Skycraft over here in Orlando, and they have a absolute buttload of electronic components and such. Its like a aerospace electronics supply store and the parts are dirt cheap. I was tempted to buy a 500 assortment of LED's but I had no clue what I would use them for

The computer is right nest to the Battery, just like the PCM on PM cars.

yes i have the schematic in my head :) I will draw it out and post it or something. I found another version someone else did with a 10 led bar light. The chip basically soldered to the back of the chip. If I cant find that one, I draw out the one I have. I actually had it on the Neon at one time. Wasn't perfect. I still had to tweak the voltage adjustments some. But it worked!!

To decorate our fearless mopar leaders Fucus :D, can you say 9volt and a resistor?

BIG_Truck_Driver
07-24-2002, 02:03 PM
Can you say 1/4 in drill bit, cordless drill, 50 feet of red wire, 25 ft of black, get a fat resister to take down the 12v power from the car, ground each light to the car, or for quicker, 4am instalation prewire all the LED's in a a long string, LED's 1 ft apart, then all you have to do is drill insert, drill insert repeat 500 times, then tap into power and ground.
