While stacking cones I thought that this particular view of the exit of the 7/14 FSF SCCA auto-x hairpin was worth photographing.

There are certainly a variety of exit paths from that turn where people left their mark.

I hated that turn, I bet a few of those are mine...

That fucking turn sucks going either way from left to right or vice versa :) Last month in the mighty IROC, I plowed the nose like a mofro and basically had to come to a complete stop to keep from going off course. Bastard turn, I shall owneth thou next month ;):):D

I have to say that's a nice bit of photography. It describes the courses I am used to running at FSF to a TEE.

Sorry I missed it.

The FF drifter was lovin that hairpin today, especially on my last fun run.
I just had to swing it wide cut the wheel and the tail end just rotated around and I found myself pointed straight for the next 2 boxes.

This is my favorite path in the photo.

im pretty sure that one was mine.. i came into it e-brake trailing, then dumped it in 1st to get them both to light up.. once they did it switched back a bit and led into the gate... :)

why would you use an e brake?

I did it to help my rear end come around fast in a tight corner.

I did twice during my fun runs to see if I could negotiate the hairpin faster than I could in a wider controlled turn.

Other people might have just done it for fun.

the way that hairping was setup, it was best to be slow in (with an early apex) and accelerate out ...

i dont belive pulling e brake would be fast way around?

You would be suprised what it can do when you have to make a tight 180 degree turn. The only reason to use the EB would be to trigger a rear slide. Its not being used for braking purposes.

it 'can' be quick, but it's very unpredictable, so when it works right, you come out of the hairpin well, but generally don't.
also, it tends to hurt you ability to accelerate out of the turn because you have to wait for the rear settle and regain traction before you can get on the gas.

It's fun, but if you want to be consistently fast, learn to do it the right right way..

Yep, thats the reason I save it for the fun runs. When it comes to doing it right you don't ever want to compromise your traction.

blah to the ebrake BS. i came flying in, got about 90% on the brakes, locked the wheel and accelerated out and stayed about 3" from the grass everytime/

You also have a LSD that helps you pull through that situation, watching the vids it looks like I was getting around it a little quicker but much less predictable with my tail happy car.

rainman, what you are ignorant to is that i used it as a trail-brake style entry... not ot lock up the tires. i didnt cluth in, just pulled up in first, set the rear brake which changes the weight-transfer and the car's attitude goes straight from one wheel wonder to instant oversteer.

"trail-braking" is the act in which all braking is done before turn in on the straight! eric

Vortec: What is the purpose of the red light on the front of your car?

i use the term trail braking as in rear only... sorry more the misenturpretation

the red light is hooked to my brake switch so other people into drift can see which technique i am using whether it be brake weight transfer, etc. it's used primarily as a learning/teaching tool. its nice, too, to watch video from head on and know where i used the brakes to make a run and learn from it.

I didnt think so. Late apex seemed faster to me. An early apex would put you still trying to rotate the car when that grass came up on the left. Much better to get the car rotated early and then get a big long straight through the stuff through the first wall of cones, brake, and enter the next one beacuse you'll be carrying too much speed.

and if a little dinky protege is carrying too much speed, so will your Cobra :P
