Well this isn't really a kill because we weren't really racing, just pissing around, but damn was that crx fast.

Whoever you are, it was on linebaugh about 8 sat night, and damn is your car fast. Hope your on here to tell a little about your car......

i've just never seen a neon in the 13's and only heard of a few neon's in the 14's...and thats just with the bottle. mostly i've seen r/t's running 15.5's with intake, header, exhaust...which is slow.

Times are for me to know and you to find out. I wasn't saying my car was oh holy hot shit of all neons, just that it's much faster than most, and it's an autox car, not a drag car.

if you drive a 15 sec car, not just neons. most swapped rexes will seem like ferrari's. it prob wasnt even swapped. a crx si with some mods could prob tag up a mostly stock neon.

You obviously don't autox much or know much about it. My car has beaten many heavily modified miatas, even when it was bone stock. And another thing, my car is lighter than a miata. So much for light weight and believing everything people tell you.

beaten many heavily modified Miatas huh ?.. most miatas that autox dont need to be "heavily modified".. they perform just fine with some basic suspension stuff and some sticky tires.. unless your an ACR Neon or a VERY good driver.. then I dont think you will beat many heavily modified Miatas.. or much else for that matter.

Stock Neon, 16.3, ACR's 15.5 with UDP CAI and Plug wires. ACR Neon's were built specifically for D Stock AutoX and they have dominated this area for quite sometime (since 95) ACR is just a "Trim" package in a sense. Same engine and HP as "regular"

most people see an improvement with aftermarket plug wires when they replace their old oem wires. thus, the 1-2 horsepower difference...at least thats the way it is in honda's.

as far as talking shit...as some of you may think...i'm not. i try to be as realistic as i can and a 15 second car is slow.

and if your neon is mostly stock...then its barely a 15 second car...acr, r/t or whatever.

so unless you have timeslips that say otherwise...i think what i'm saying is both fair and very true.

my car runs mid to high 14's...depending on my launch.

its not very fast...as i just installed this motor and i'm getting it to run properly before i go any further with it...although, when i get back to tampa/st pete i'll have my setup together and my hatch will be respectable. and i'll invite anyone else to race who feels like they have something to prove. this is what makes building a car rewarding and is what i look forward to whenever i'm out driving around. and if i lose...i'll be the first to admit that my car is slower and or i wasn't a good enough driver.

you may be correct. i'm basing my estimates on several things. first, the b16 i have has 8000 original miles on it...which means it runs extremely well, doesn't burn oil...and has good compression. second, i've been able to slightly pull on new style mustang gt's that i assume are stock (based on this area and looking at the driver...as mustangs are very rarely tweaked around here.) third, this motor is in a 92dx which is pretty light and i have a civic si transmission...which has pretty close gear ratios. also, i have an aem cai and a test pipe...which has made a considerable difference when compared to my previous setup which included a shitty exhaust and restrictive cat.

speculation however, is pointless...and i'll be taking my car to the track in the next few weeks when i have time. then, i'll scan and post my timeslips for everyone to see...as i hate it when people lie.

I used to drive a neon before, and I will say I would give anything to have the handling of that car in my honda. Neon was never modified, and could take turns , that I can barely even take now in my honda with its modified suspension.

Also, are you saying stock civic is fast? U said stock neon is slow.
I ran my stock neon with a stock 98civic , and it was dead even.

it doesn't take much to humiliate a neon. i've done this several times with a d16z in a del sol. sorry, but i would never expect an all motor neon with no mods to ever keep up with a sohc vtec...much less a dohc. therefore, i posted what i did...and if anyone has times that speak differently, i'll admit i was wrong and tip my hat.

a stock focus runs a 16.9...and a jackson racing supercharged focus runs a 15.7 with 17inch wheels. this was with 170hp (claimed by jackson racing) so i wonder what was going wrong...are the transmissions geared really high? anyway, the horsepower increase was really substantial...just the 0-60 numbers and 1/4 times weren't quite on par...

i'm not talking about the svt focus...as i think that runs a 15.9 stock...i'm talking about the plain focus with 103horsepower.

Does anyone know what they are talking about besides Brian and Lori?? Have any of you heard about the group of women that run in Gainsville every year in mostly stock Neons and fuckin clean up?? I can't remember who they are but they are wicked. The ACR was built specifically for Auto-X and does hold it's own in the hands of a capable driver. Just because one has the advantage of AWD or RWD, doesn't mean they will beat everything out there. Some people can overcome their downsides and don't need the assistance of technology. If you will recall, Auto crossing is testing driver skill more than car capabilities. This is not 100% the rule, but a majority of it is. Hell, Chris will wipe out half the TR Auto-X crew in his stock, body rolling bastard.

I believe Chet, 2qwk4u and Zate should show up Saturday night to prove just how slow and horrible a Neon is. You three made some very inflaming, derogatory, immature and unnecessary comments. I was especially surprised and dissapointed at your comments, Zate. He provoked absolutely none of what you threw at him. Everyone is so quick to benchrace and judge. unfortunately for all neon followers the new neon hasn't been released yet. yes, it will have a turbo with 205 horsepower and then it should be respectable...or at least faster. however, i'm not going to base my opinion on a neon that hasn't even made it into production....but rather on the neon's that are already on the road today...

They stopped making the GLH's because they had a lot of reliabilty issues, just like the other Chrysler turbo motors. Don't even try to tell me differently because I helped a friend of mine build his Omini GLHS and that thing would blow head gaskets every couple of months dur to the inferior head design and the spacing between the cylinders. So I would not call the GLH's , turbo shadows, etc. ahead of the game but merely experiments that went south.

On paper the new Neon or SRT looks good but we will see.

I also don't think this has been a Neon bashing thread as much as it has been a calling out thread. That's always fine with me since it livens up the competitions at the auto-xes.

As has already been mentioned elsewhere auto-x is a combination of both car and driver. A crap car with a great driver or a great car with a crap driver are never going to have the best times at the auto-x.

How well those of us with reasonable hardware and skills will perform can only be revealed on the course.

After all the talk on this thread I'm hoping to see a neon or two this Saturday at the auto-x.

That must have been reverse psychology because now I am going to try and tell you otherwise :)

GLH, and GLHS were Shelby cars. It was Shelby who decided to no longer produce them. Just think about how many new shelby cars there are right now? Only one, and its completely unique to shelby, not a souped up ford or Chrysler.

Secondly these engines even the turbo ones, don't blow head gaskets left and right. If the head and block is true, the bolts are torqued in the right sequence and specs, and a Mopar gasket is used (not Fel Pro stuff), then they should last as long as any other "reliable car". This is proven by many Turbo Dodge owners who run 300+ hp without such failure.

The actual 2.2/2.5 engine design didn't go away until about 94/95. It was in production over a decade in more than several forms including Carbed, TBI, MPI Turbo, SMPI Turbo, and even flex fuel config. Why did they stop producing it then? Probably because by the early 90's everyone else was building sub 2.0L 16 valve 4 cyls for fuel economy, and the design of the 2.2 was starting to age. Just about every company practices this, especially with 4cyls. A company has to always adapt to new technologies, if they want to survive, because new ideas are what sell.

Lastly the Neon SRT-4 powerplant is nothing new, they have been selling cars with this engine for years in other countries, its a stroked Neon engine with a turbo. Its already been tried and tested. And on top of that despite the fact that I am no huge Mercedes fan, their known for quality, and a lot of that has been slowly creeping into Dodges since the 98 takeo....merger :)

I am not trying to start a fire fight, just felt that I needed to express my opinion and share some of my knowledge in the hopes that someone can take something useful from it. I respect you for expressing your opinion and sharing your experience, even though I may not agree :)
