As bad as I'd like to go to the fsf autox this weekend, I just won't be able to make it. Was wondering if anybody is going to the Sunriders because I'll finally be able to participate and was wanting to compare some times to all the resident shit talkers. Anyway, cheers, and enjoy the fsf autox.

And Leonard, all the info is on this page.

Cool man, thanks for the tip. A night auto-x is a neat idea.

I will have to adjust my schedule for next weekend but I will certainly try to be there.

sunriders = sucky course, to tight, best suited for miatas! 930 i doubt you will like it after doing pca event! peace, eric

Yeah, I'm assuming it will be small and tight and against a bunch of miatas I will most certainly be at the bottom of the results list.

At the same time it will probably be fun as hell and allow me to get some parking lot practice in before the next SCCA or PCA event. Since the hairpin at the FSF appears to be a regular feature of that course I need to experiment some more on how the get the porsche through a tight 90 degree turn as quickly as possible.

Unfortunatley I got busted in my secret practice spot about a month ago so until I find another I'm happy to have the miata boys provide me with a place to play where I won't get into any trouble.

Jesse, in the champagne protege who you will likely see this weekend, will probably go to that event... as might Neal and katie in the red scirocco.

Leonard you are SO afraid. You can beat a Miata if you try. I know your car can do it... just remember you are not part of the Matrix! You have to KNOW you can do it, then you will.

LOLOLOLOHAHAHAHAHAHAHHALOLOOLOLOL

if my wife has our son before then, I will be there. true.

Me thinks that Leonard is cherry picking his events to reduce his chances of being publicly owned.

I don't get this autox snootyness. An autox is an autox is an autox. Unless any of you here are making a career out of this, I just don't understand how you can make excuses like my car won't do good here blah blah blah wah wah wah. Most of the events put on around here are low key, easy going and are simply to improve driver skills. I'd like to hear the same attitude explained to the insurance company when you tell them that avoiding the accident wasn't best suited for my car.

Actually, PorscheGuy, there's a couple of reasons.

There is pretty much an autox every weekend that you can attend. We're ALL doing mods to our cars and you gotta do them some time. I'm making a feeble attempt at running points in SM to see how well I can do, so the SCCA events are far more important to me. We all have limited budgets. This stuff is hard on tires, brakes, rotors and about everything else. Everytime I have to replace pads or rotors or tires or any other wear item, it delays my being able to do other things to the car I want to do.

If you want to call it cherry picking, go ahead... frankly, I'm not worried about you beating me. I figure you will as soon as you move to R compound tires. Frankly, you should be able to beat me with the 930 on street tires. You have similar power and weigh 1000lbs less.

I'm just razzing you Leonard.

I do sympathise with your budget and time constraints since I too have to make ends meet and figure out the logistics of how I can rebuild my motor and tranny in the next several months.

Now if you drive like I do I would assume that 99.9% of the wear and tear on your brakes and rotors would be from daily driving.

Then again I treat almost every day as a mini auto-x when I have the opportunity.

I thought you were GOD rich Leonard? Network guy with no family to pay for except that Cobra of yours... NO EXCUSES YOU ARE PICKING EVENTS!!!

If you weren't picking events you'd have SAID that as your first reason... not that he course 'wasn't suited' to your car. Your first response is the honest one and the second saves face.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH I PWNED YOU!!!

i need to post this reply in war stories!!!!
hahahahahaha

I am an ass!

Shhh, don't give him any ideas. Leonard has already threatened to hug me.

Congradulations. As the father of a 22 month old girl I know how you feel. We all also now know what you and your wife were up to right after 9/11.

So Shawn.. If I do have constraints that limit the number of autoxes I go to, why would I go to the ones that are less well suited for my car?

I'm far from 'rich'... I do alright, but... still the money only goes so far and I'm putting a good bit aside each month for a down payment on a house someday....

07-11-2002, 08:22 PM
leo... you really think I care which autoXs you go to? lol... I'm just the other eight year old egging you two on!

I have a 22month old boy as well as one on the way 400HP930. And no... not quite up to anything right after 9/11. It was more like late October that we decided to try again so they would be ~2yrs apart. And I am damn proud of it! lol

we'll have to bring our wives and children to an autox and let them play, though by then my wife will be driving as well?!

Leonard

put those kids to work! we can use them as courseworkers at station 1....

hey leonard this is chris (bone stock integra ls white) just to let ya know your car should be nimble enough for the courses set up by this club granted they are a little tighter than people are used to there was this huge lifted 1st gen ford lightning doin the course a couple months ago and he did fairly well and didnt hit any cones or anything. and as far as getting owned by miatas goes... yeah it will happen but last event with the miata club i had 9th fastest time of the day in my car and you usually beat me by about .5 sec.

Dude, I saw an Impala SS and a Pantera at that course. Both had way more horsepower and a much larger turning radius than you. Sure, the course favors lower HP small cars, but autocrossing is supposed to be a challenge, is it not?

At the Allstate SPC campus in st pete, it's close to the skyway off of 34th street.

you'll do fine. I've seen plenty of Porsches out there...and they have no trouble. Actually...there are several Impala SS's that come out there and hold their own on the tight sunriders course.
Don't forget, Danny Shields races with those Miata guys often...he doesn't seem to have any problems getting his 936 or whatever it is around the cones....but then again he is a Jedi Master.

Yep you are right. It was a very nice course and I am glad I went.

To bad most of the people in run group B didn't get a chance to get a second timed run since we got rained out towards the end of the event.

Fortunately I was in run group A. :)
