After attending a couple of recent autocrosses I realized that I didn't want to have to put numbers on my car using white shoe polish any longer.

I have asked a few people with magnetic numbers where they got them. While a few had theirs made at sign shops others had made them using magnetic sheets (like the stuff refrigerator magnates are made of) themselves.

I liked the idea of making them myself so this weekend I went to the arts and crafts store and made up some numbers using my computer printer.

For about $12 I made 10 numbers (5 pairs) that give me a few number choices if my primary choice is not available.

Check out my racing fridge.

Yep, I did something similar a couple of months ago. Office Depot -> Inkjet Magnet sheets (4 sheets of 8.5x11 magnet). Do numbers in office application of choice. Print. Cut out. Spray paint with color of choice. Cover with clearcoat spray paint for that glossy touch. I also did up my class letters.

What sucks is I lost one of my 6's.. left em on the car after the last FSF event (yeah, i know.. stupid) and got home missing a number... :( what sucks is I don't remember what size I made the font and didn't save the file...

I was a lazy ass and just printed them in black and cut them out. I want to make sure they can stay on before I put a lot of work into them.

After putting on a few test numbers I thought that they may not stick well enough for interstate speeds so I am glad you have verified that fact. I was almost tempted to put on one of my optional numbers and take it out for a test ride but didn't get around to it yet.

When I made mine I made sure to record the font and size just in case I lose any or want to make some other numbers.

I meant to record the font size, but well.. I'm absent minded sometimes... damnit! now i'll have to trace my other 6... :(

Or make a whole new set...

After the bad luck I had making my numbers from the thin magnet material I got from the craft store I tracked down the thicker stuff at home depot and made a new set using my old numbers as spray paint stencils.

They are big and square and appear to stick pretty well, so I will see this weekend if they stay on while running the course.

I so liked your digital idea I almost copied it myself, but changed my mind once I found the large sheet material and I realized I could use my old numbers as spray paint stencils.

You got anything else up your sleeve beside yo mamma?
