...One of the readers of Derek Belands site did a MPI conversion on a TBI. I just read it and its so unbelievably simple to do.

i was reading that earlier today. That's probably what i'll end up doing. Id like to use my Omni SBEC setup i have and make it Mexican PFI Cal'd... but Maxon is a dumbass and i aint waiting on him to come thru. I'm still waiting on my Dual Twister.

Actually, sitting and reading that whole page again... i think i will go this way for the Omni. Mild ported head. Still contemplating if i should use a ported TBI exhaust manny or my MP long header. The header requires a section of braided flex pipe ($$) and solid front mount to keep it from smacking the firewall. (It's damn long!) I'll shave the head/block to get it to 10:1 (stock is 8.9) and throw in some turbo floating rods. I'm not sure if common block N/A engines have the floaters. 520 trans, maybe 523 if i feel creative. Guess i wont need that 90 Omni harness anymore. Someone wanted to buy it on the other lists... just forget who...

On second thought.. i need a TBI harness for the car anyway.. i might as well use the 90. Electronics are probably MUCH better. I also will then be able to use the electronic speed sensor and electronic speedo which means 100MPH speedo, not the normal 80 or 85!

BTW, L0r1 or 808... what year is that Omni titled as? Isnt it an 89 or 90?

titles as a 87. According to vin its is just a plain 87 carb'd model. Right? :evil4: Just ignore the turbo that was in back, it was just the replacment smog pump when it was running. However the car has the complete turbo harness from an 85 GLH. Remeber, we get first dibs, so you CANT sell it till the GLH is paid for. :deal: :burnout: :smirk:

I thought Greg (the guy you got it from) told me that it was like a 90 body that he was putting all the GLH shit onto because the GLH was so rusted out. Guess that was something else he was talking about. He came into my work the other day and i told him i was going to end up with the car but forgot to ask him the year. Sure 808, you get first dibs on it. If my little PFI 2.5 idea turns out fun, i'll probably keep it for a while. It just may have a bunch more miles on it since it'll be my pizza car.

Yeah I am gonna do it, in fact now that I can I might prolong the turbo project until later, and or possibly just buy another car which will be turbo. One of the main reasons I wanted to ditch the TBI besides lack of boost was because the manifold sucked arse and pretty much limited everything else. Now that that problem is solved I won't be suprised if I can get some respectable power numbers. Anyone think I can hit 160hp at the wheels? I already know it is possible to get about 140hp and 151ft-lbs with some mild bolt ons (inside info).

Now the real question is if anyone wants to divy in on some high impedence injectors. I found some from accel for the 5.0's and 4.6's but so far only in sets of 8, and for over $200. Anyone wanna go half and half?

As for the damn k car. Well lets just say, yes I am moping about it. I just spent $135 on the single tailight, apparently the only one Chrysler had left in stock too (haha guess I get the last new one ever, and its being shipped straight from Detroit). I tried junkyards, 6 to be exact and didn't find a single one.

Now for the corner piece I have to somehow rebuild it, basically fiberglass my parts back together and then bondo it. Then its gonna cost me about $200 to have the dents and frame pulled straight. After that it will sit a few weeks till I have money to go to Macco. I was told when I got the first estimate that the only place that could match that paint would be Macco because it appeared to be their handy work. Considering this I am probably just gonna get the whole car repainted by them. Any Color ideas? I'll probably just stay with something blue so it won't be so different from the engine bay color, but I am also considering white.

Oh Jeff give me a update as soon as possible about when you are ready to sell that cylinder head. I'll be out of town about July 9-14, going to NY, but after that I would also like to get the cylinder head problem fixed (valve chatter is starting to bother me).

I know JCWhitney is not known for being a performance catalog but I am pretty sure you can get SS flexible exhaust couplings in it for like $30.

My block is 88, tall deck (pre common block) and it has press fits, but I am pretty sure none of the N/A's will have floaters. Those should only be found in engines with T2 rods.

I also wanna go to 5spd but I am not very educated on all the different 5spd transmissions, however this is something for later down the line, too many other things planned for my car that take priority.

My next mod plans are to MPI convert my car, then add a underdrive pulley and cam. Eventually I'll get my current cylinder head sent to the machine shop and get it ported and polished at the same time. However I will probably leave my compression stock as to keep the valve train non interference.

After thinking about it a bit, I am seriously thinking I will stay N/A with this car, and just buy a turbo car next summer. Its about time I have more than one car anyways :D

140 at the wheels is extremely optimistic especially with an auto. Neons with major engine work and tuned properly are doing pretty damn good if they're making 160.

I know they have them.. i didnt think they were that cheap for a 2.5" over a foot long.

Oh man, the fun you can have with a tall block!!!!!! I'm dead serious! I was planning on building one for my super HiPo N/A engine, but i'll probably just stick to a 2.5 CB now. I'm not sure if they have floaters or not, but it could be made into one easily enough. Early T1s and Common Block 2.5 T1s had floaters too. Me staying with CB, if 2.5 N/A CB's dont have floaters, i can throw in some turbo rods.

You'll also need all the inside shit to make it a 5-spd.. not sure how much is k-car specific. (clutch pedel, shift cables, etc). Gary D had Relentless a 5-spd at one point.. i'll ask him next time we chat

I'm going to bring mine up to about 10-10.5:1 CR

Either by shaving the head or block. It still shouldnt make it interference unless i use a wild cam.

1 point should make a huge diff. Stock they are 8.9:1

He would be interested in making a TBI one also.. to whatever length/dimensions that the parties involved in the development want. He said if there's enough interest.. and it'll still be like 4 mos down the road.

Nope it is a 87 Omni. He has some 90 Omni parts. I bought a Manual rack off of him for that Omni but never got it installed because you need a 90 column. I might keep the diabled rack on the GLH since those cars aren't that heavy to begin with, plus it has a faster ratio than the manual racks.

1) Tell me the shipping cost and I can take my arse down to the bank and get a cashiers check :)

2) Junkyards will work, but lately I haven't had any luck with them. If you find a whole bunch of 5.0/4.6 injectors, I'll pay you for 4 of them.

3)Are you refering to that inside info I had? If so that was some baseline mods to a TBI which produced 140hp at the wheels in a 5spd Caravelle. I can give you the list of mods, but I bet you can make more power with MPI and the turbo manifold *Tim Allen Grunt* MORE POWER.

4) I got a shite load of fiberglass laying in the garage right now, I just need to spend $4 on a can of resin. If it doesn't work I'll let you know.

Well at the rate my mods go, I doubt I'll be that far in 4 months. I still haven't done a thing to the suspension.
