I'm looking into Autocrossing and I was wondering if there is a class that I can run a Kart in? I saw one at the fairgrounds today (Actually I only saw the picture after I got home), and I'd like to get into that if they provide a class at their events..
Thanks,
Matt

Yep, there are classes for carts. Do you know exactly what you are looking to do? You might consider picking up a copy of the rulebook to get more information about it.

Thanks :) Is there a local place to pick-up a rule book? Do you know of any local shops that sell those karts? :?:

I don't really know much about them. They sell SCCA rulebooks at the events. I'd suggest a search for shifter karts on the internet to get you started. They're not exactly a cheap toy.

If you become a member of the SCCA, they will give you a rule book. There are a few Kart shop's here in the Tampa area. I don't have the names right now, but www.ekartingnews.com is a good place for info.
Most people that I know that have karts don't auto-x them. There are a couple of local tracks that will allow you more seat time than an auto-x, but will cost a little more. What is your budget?

Last I checked, you have to purchase the rule book. I did...

Is it only shifter karts that can run? If that is the case, I don't want to drop $5K on a kart. If I can run a 100-125cc 2 stroke kart (Non-shifter), then I can get into that for about $1500. That's what front brakes alone would cost on the Stang.
Anyway... Thanks for the info, I'll look into it more at the Gainesville event next week. Looks like I may be buying a 240z to race anyway...

You don't have to be a shifter cart to run.
I can't remember if they break the caregories down any further, but there is a shifter cart category and a non-shifter cart category.
The cart that ran this sunday was definantly a non-shifter cart.
In every auto-x that I have been to with a good shifter cart or two, the shifter carts have always had the best track times.
The non shifter carts have a harder time since their start up is slower or their top speed is limited depending on what gearing they use.
Either way it still looks fun as hell for someone with a cart.

There many different classes.
80cc shifter
125cc shifter
100cc non shifter
Rotax 100cc
A lot of 4 stroke classes.
1500 will get you a used 100cc KT or YT.
