I am looking to get a 2.2 Turbo project engine. So far I have been to A1 and some other POS scrapyard. Brief summary:
found 6 engines all T1s 5 were log intakes 1 was one piece intake with mitsu turbo.
Both the places I went wanted $250 which to me seems high for a engine which I will have to rebuild anyways but I really wouldnt know cause I have never bought a engine from a scrapyard. I am thinking about just getting a T1 because they are easy to find. Probably a log intake just so I have a Garret turbo core for rebuild and will get a one piece later. Any advice on the subject?

Grab a 2.5L. swap the mitsu with a garret. Just a little grinding on the exhaust. The 2.5L intake is basically a T2 intake. Not quite but VERY close. More torque from a 2.5L. Or if you have the time pull a 2.5L out and while still in the yard swap a T1 garret on the back of it. Pull the intake off so the turbo will bolt up just say you pulled the intake off cuz it made it easier to pull the engine out.

Ok thanks Ill see if I can find any Turbo Caravans. They are probably the easiest to spot of the 2.5T1 powered cars.

Or I believe any 88 T1 and up has the 1 piece intake. You should be able to see garrett or mitsu on the compressor housing with the engine still in the car. MY best FWD find When Jeff isnt running around swipeing all the parts before I get out there was 2 88 Lebaron GTSs. Looked at the turbos one said mitsu the other said Garrett. :eek2: I doulbe and triple checked. Someone swapped in a T@ in the Lebaron unitercooled and put 88 T1 intake on it. Pulled it stashed it in the ford section for a week got paid went back and grabbed it. Checked it out has the forged crank. Score for me!! Always give a car a good look over youll never know what you will find. Once found a 68 383 in a 78 Newport. Didnt get that one though.

+core? You mean they have a core charge for that. Thats not kosher cause I dont have a Turbo engine sitting around if I did it would be getting rebuilt for the K. So without a core I assume that would be another 100?

Nah for a core you can bring them any boat anchor. Grab any head block etc laying around. Doesnt even have to be turbo.. they only want it for the weight. I think the core is $35.

The race is against Cophers.. theyll crush the cars before someone else will get the stuff. Bastards crushed a 2.2 Dakota that I found there just 2 days earlier. I needed to get the transmission too! Went back yesterday and it was MIA. :madfawk:

Maybe if life stops getting in the way i can keep up.
American Part in plant city sold me a complete soch neon
engine for $300 i mean everything both manifolds starter
EVERYTHING. They have stuff pulled but when the same
motor at barely used cost $1000 and a block anywhere was
300 it was a good deal. There number is 800-296-5783
call them if nothing else to get a price.

And i agree with jeff about cophers. A shelby daytona was
there for exactly one day. It wasnt there the day before saw
it the next day then the day after when i had money it was
crushed.:cry::cry:. If they were cheaper i would have
bought the whole drivettrain on the spot but instead they
crushed it and lost my money. Bastards.

Lori and I were in the yard when they dropped a 69 New yorker in there. Complete with 440. We were the last ones to leave the yard. Next morning we were the First ones when the doors opened to the PUBLIC. Lori signed in went in and saw some dude under the car he left pulled the fender mounted turn signals. We ran over there and pulled the enigne. * people came up asking if we were taking the engine! The car wasnt even on the rims yet. I had to crank up the torsion bars to get under there to undo the tranny.

Bob forgot to mention that as soon as we got the engine out the fork lift came for the car I hate Cophers and their so called prices One time I found a single Ralley Wheel on there. So I said hell $10 for a wheel bitch is mine!! Went to go pay for it and the price went to $20 because it was a Styled Steel Wheel I said forget it the price list says $10 and that is what I will pay no more no less. The ID10T says to me If you ever hit a curb youre gonna wish you had bought it I replied with I know How to drive I dont hit curbs. Jackass figures they are owned by Ford.

I dunno.. some of their prices are high... but then again i got a R/T 568 trans for $35. It works both ways. Id rather have it this way than the yards that 1) dont let you pull your own stuff or 2) look up the new price and charge half or wahtever. Ive made LOTS of money buying parts a copher prices and selling them at cheaper than other yards.
