This is kind of a continuation thread from some previous threads.

In a nutshell, I got a Maaco "Signature Series" paint job. Look it up if you feel like it.

A certain car painter who apparently has a great fear of competition has been trying to crap all over "Maaco" in general.

I've explained several times to him that there is no such thing as "Maaco in general."

I let him know that most Maacos are franchises that are supposed to operate under corporate guidelines. Some do operate this way... and some don't. Some Maaco's are good some are bad. Maacos have all different levels and costs for paint jobs. You ain't gonna get much for $199 from any of them.

But when you start moving to $1000 or more, Maaco can be pretty good if they have a good staff working at a shop.

I found a good Maaco in Tampa and this guy just can''t stand it!

I've been waiting for this chump to pop up after I posted some pics of the paint job... and he did!

congrats, let us see it in 6 months,.

The paint job can be seen here:
http://www.tamparacing.com/forums/paint-body-detailing/621274-paint-job-cost-757-56-a.html

IT'S PUT UP OR SHUT UP TIME!!!!!! (See below)

I hoped I'd be hearing from you, sour grapes.

What ever happened to all that overspray on the tires, windows and trim you promised me?????? I didn't get any. Not a friggin' drop!

I promise I'll post some pics in 6 months.

What do you predict will go wrong? Remember, I watched them every step of the way. And they did it right.

Do you think Sherwin Williams products are inferior? That's the only thing thing that could cause problems.

Care to put your money where your mouth is?

How about $100?

I will put up photos of the car on June 17th and we'll do a poll on whether the paint job has held up or not.

OR

You and I can agree on a "neutral" judge here in Tampa that I can bring the car to and let him be the judge of whether or not the paint is in good shape.

Whattya say, pal? Put up or shut up.

Or are you just talking out your ass as usual?

Sorry man,but I've seen close up a $2000 paint job done by Macco. They painted over the stickers on the moldings and now it's peeling up.They left the bumpers all pitted up,just sprayed them. And the inside of the hatch looked like it was still wet from wax and grease remover then was sprayed over. This was my uncles car,he went to look at it after it was first done and made them re-do it and it still is a shitty job.He called the BBB and filed a complaint with them, and I am redoing the car.

So he went to a bogus Maaco and some bums worked on the car. I'll say it again. There are good Maacos, bad Maacos and some that are somewhere in the middle.

Either that or he spent $199 or something hoping for a good job. And we both know a couple of hundred bucks is gonna get you.

Why didn't he bring it to you in the first place?

im sorry but as a paint and body professional i have to agree with everyone saying your maaco paint job is gonna cloud up and dull out in probably 6 months. And white hides everything! dark colors show everything. white allows a body man to do a half ass job and have the car still look good. wanna know how I know this? In the past I have done some half ass jobs on white cars and they still looked damn good.

i am not afraid of competition, i live 2 hours north of tampa, i have a $4,000 job in the prep area right now. you came on here asking for advice, you got some that you did not want to hear, and i will say it again, congrats,,,,..
and as far as your petty bet, no thanks, again i am 2 hours north, you can take pics of all the good parts, but let any painter see it up close and i assure you they can find at least 10 bad spots.

In a few months to a year or two, you'll probably be asking yourself the exact same thing. ;)

ill take $1000 that it is no good in a year! a bad clearcoat will start to wear out in a few months. sherwin williams is not even recognized as good paint for cars. your best hope is that they prepped it correctly and used a quality clearcoat - which i highly doubt since ppg or high matrix clearcoat can run for $200 alone.

Can't believe i missed this thread!

I do have to kinda agree with the different levels of macco some better than the next, maybe he did get a good deal for a paint job, and maybe he even got some quality work, chances are low though. Only time will tell.. and pics of the car dont do anything, if any professional were to look at the car in person im sure they can find problems, shit i can even find problems on a 6k dollar paint job. Only thing I can hope is that you had some people that really cared about what they were doing, and were atleast half assed educated in refinishing.

I can spot things that prolly no one else would because we as professionals know what to look for, and the average person may not ever notice since we do it every day, so our good and your good my differ greatly.

Finally macco is a shitty place to get a good paint job, that will truely last, great place for a quck shine for a little cash,ESP if you are going to sell it! just dont expect it to last long. The materials are shit, the workers are underpaid, but the marketing is GREAT, they even have rhymes (see Sig).

I offer my services FOR FREE to look at any ones car that was painted by macco(with reciept) , and says their work is GREAT, and i will guarantee that I will find issues, or inproper repairs that will have you second guessing your Quality job for cheap, or i will gIve you 100.00 cash!

I am a Collision Repair Technician, with 7+ years Working in a collision shop, and been in the business since I was a kid helping my father, even helped spray a car when I was 10. I am ASE Master certified, I-Car certified 24+ Classes, and a Certified welder Through I-car. I currently work for a shop in Tampa known for their Quality, and that specializes in high end European Cars.

It all depends on which one you goto. I was a painter for the one in Ocala and as stated before, I was pretty impressed. Its true that they don't take anything off the car but as far as painting stickers and whatnot, I have never seen that. They sanded the car with 400-500 on a DA. Didn't even think they would go that far. Once it was in the booth, EVERY car was wiped with wax/grease remover and then wiped with a tack cloth. After that sealer/base/clear was applied unless you got the special which was a urethane. Everything was either Nason or DuPont Chromabase. Im not saying that they are the beat but I have see some REALLY poor quality paintjobs roll out of other local shops and the people paid $2000+. If you prep it yourself and remove everything, I see no problem getting you car painted at Maaco. They are all different and owned by different people so I am only speaking for the one I worked at.

ITs not the paint or the place if you got a good painter that knows how to prep a car the right way and knows his products you will get a heck of a paint job.....,.....again is not the paint and place its......who paints the cars!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's happening here???

Two guys in a row saying it's possible to get a decent job out of a Maaco, and one of them is a FORMER Maaco employee who would have nothing to fear if he trashed them!??!?!?

Nah, these guys must be lying. I don't know why they would, but they have to be lying. We all know there has never been a good paint job that rolled out of a Maaco, right?

mickey

I must have gone to a good one. They took stuff of my car.

Hey Maaco! Where's my overspray??? Lots of guys here promised me I'd get a ton of overspray and I didn't get any!!! What a ripoff.

I don't understand why this thread is still going. How old are you OP? If you're satisfied with the $800 paintjob, why waste everyone's time arguing with and/or provoking the people that disagree with the paintjob's quality? You're not going to change anyone's opinions about Maaco.

How old am I? The next corner I turn will be 60.

And to answer your other question, I guess I was expecting too much when I hoped a few of these auto painters might say, "You're right. Maybe not ALL Maacos suck."

I was also waiting to hear from others who said, "Yes, I've seen good paint jobs by a Maaco shop on occcasion." One out of two ain't bad, I guess.

As I said before, I really, really despise gross generalizations. Stuff like Irish guys drink too much, black people are lazy, Italians are wife beaters and so on.

A few of these guys insisted and still insist on lumping every Maaco in the country into one category, ie. they all suck. And it's simply not true.

When the "all Maaco's suck" guys quit saying it, I'll quit replying to their bullshit. If they persist, so shall I. I enjoy making them look stupid.

Actually I don't have any overspray.

What you see there is a reflection of the camera flash off the taillights.

If you notice, what you think you see as overspray occurs in precisely the same spot on both sides, right?

The "overspray" is where the tailight curves and for some reason the curves on both ends picked up the flash.

Nope no lying here i still have the recepiet from the paint job.

I was being sarcastic. I'm the guy that started this whole thing by saying Maaco did a good job for me.

I was being sarcastic. Some guys accused me of being a shill for Maaco. One guy said I had to be a Maaco employee. So I decided to rib them a little.

The pics of your paint job gives me more faith that I made a good decision no matter what some of these dudes say.

Which one did you get? I got the Signature Series and paid a little extra for the "Value Prep" package. Business is real slow before and after Christmas and they cut me a real good deal.

and keep being "sarcastic" being that you are that old and you know every thing and stop acting like you are some rice running 18 year old,.
and again you are the one that asked advice from the pro's
listen to guys like killer mike and old school if you did not want to take mine,..

I have no idea what you're trying to say. Are you shitfaced so early on a Saturday?

You saying I ate some bad rice and I got the runs?

Whatsa matter? You drinking early because you had to re-paint the last three cars you worked on because the owners puked on the floor when they saw what you did to their cars?

And how the hell can you say something about me bitching and them doing stuff they don't normally do, when you have no idea which Maaco did the job or anything else?

Oh yeah. I forgot. You are familiar with every Maaco store in Florida, everyone that works in them and the quality of work they perform. How could I forget that?

Bitch at 'em? I fed those boys homemade coffe cake, chocolate chip cookies and other good stuff. We all got along great.

When I see something like this,:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: , it's confirmed, this fuckin' guy IS an idiot."

You should have finished high school, maybe you would have learned to express yourself a little better.

And here's a tip for you, no charge, OK?

It's too late to get any of those brain cells back that you killed by huffing rattle can shit, but if you quit now, maybe you can save the few brain cells you have left.

Throw the bag and rag away, man! You're already permanently fucked up. Don't make it any worse than it already is!

Now here's the thing about age, sonny.

I have three guys in their early 20s that work for me. I talk to them a lot. So I guess when I'm talking to them or other "youngsters" like you, I tend to fall into how they talk.

You babies got a lot to learn. I nailed one of my boys who was doing a surveillance for me a couple of weeks ago.

It was a hot day. He was sitting in his vehicle, with all the windows open, listening to his fuckin" IPOD!

He was unaware, but I was doing the same surveillance. He's kinda green and it was an important job so I figured I'd back him up a little bit.

I took a different sight line, and like I say, he didn't even know I was around. I was also surveilling HIM to see how he conducted himself.

He should have and could have spotted me, but he didn't. He was focused on the target area and fuckin' hip-hop music! He wasn't paying any attention to anything else. He should have been aware of his surroundings, not just the target area and his tunes.

Listening to the fuckin' IPOD was pure idiocy and it pissed me off. Why? Because he was putting himself in danger with the distraction. A tank could have driven up behind him and he wouldn't have known it.

I snuck up behind his vehicle, reached in the back window and put the barrel of a goddam tire guage against the back of his head.

He never tried to turn around or even look in his mirror to see what was happening. He just raised his hands and said, "Whoah, man, take it easy. Take it easy. Take it easy." A couple of days later, he told me he almost pissed himself.

I LOVE dealing with you young know-it-all types. It can be a lot of laughs! I let him keep his, job by the way. Didn't even write him up. But he leaves his IPOD at home these days.

He learned a good lesson, or I at least hope he did. I think he now knows you use your ears in surveillance work too, not just your eyes. Hopefully he also learned to be aware of what's happening in a full 360 degree radius too. Ya never know what might sneak up on ya.

You're probably an all right kid yourself. But you're real defensive and you talk too much fuckin' bullshit. Way, way, way too much bullshit. It's typical for a lot of people your age, but it's still real annoying.

So take your own advice. Grow up. You sound like you think you know everything about the business you're in. Sorry, not possible. Sounds to me like you're still in car painting diapers.

Most of my growing is done, my boy. I ain't exactly at the end of the trail, but I can see it from here. But you know what? There's always time to learn something, always room for a little growth.

For example, the Maaco boys taught me a little about how a car should be painted. And I thanked them for it.

So tell me now, big mouth. What kind of pictures of my paint job do you want to see. You already said to take them early, in bright daylight and I will.

What areas do you want me to shoot? You want tight shots, wide shots, both? Tell me what pictures you want, junior, I'll post them here and we'll get some opinions on the work.

i really dont see a 800 dollar paint job getting 700 dollars worth of material on it.

I think you are the most annoying member on TR. :hide:

You're one uptight fool. Give it up, Maaco did a "good" job on your car, stop arguing about it. Every person has a different opinion, there is nothing you can do or say that will change their minds. UGH

Holy crap, I gave up after page 1 and two, pretty sure I saw previous crap about this

Tell yourself you've got a great paintjob all you want, go pat yourself on the back, go put some high end wax on it, I dont care what you do.

Each time someone around here that knows what they are talking about reads the BS you keep posting, it makes for a good chuckle.

Please realize that the materials alone for a NICE paintjob, which you stated you were looking for initially, cost equal to, if not more in a lot of cases than what maaco charged you for materials AND labor, so if you really think you got materials on par with a quality paintjob, and got good work too, you are only fooling yourself.

it seems to me some guys on here are hatin,if this katt got a $800 paint jog and he's happy, then more power to ya.i've done jobs with cheaper clear and paint and they still look just as good as the day it left the shop.don't bash someone for trying to save money.not everyone can afford a 4k,5k,6k,or 10k paint job.and if you put a 10k dollar paint job on a car you drive everyday then your a dumbass, and if you drop 1,000 dollars on paint for a car,you better know what your doing.it takes more then just a few years under your belt to call your self a tech.stop bashing each other and try helping.not everyone wants to hear negitive bullshit, keep that shit to yourself.and if you think that matrix and shrwin williams is the same qauilty then you really don't need tobe painting.

Long story short, it all depends on where you go. Same thing goes for parts places. You can get some douchebags at a specific place and everyone thinks ALL of their stores hire douchebags. Remember, these places are not all located in one area. Unfortunately you may have to go outside of where you live/frequent to get the service you want. Ever go into a fast food place and ALL of the workers are young dummies? Then you happen to be in another area (not that far from you) and all of the workers have common sense? As I've said before, it depends on where you go. The MAACO that I was gonna go to had a TON of good work. Walked through with the manager and he showed me some of the custom, yes custom cars they were working on and I highly doubt that with what was under the hood of those cars, the owners would settle for a $200 paint job. Even he told me you get what you pay for. You can get a $400 paint job or a $4000 paint job...it's up to you. Honestly, for $700+ and a 15 year old car, you made out pretty good. If the paint doesn't disintegrate in 6 months, you made out.

Pure Kustoms why don't you and the rest of these illiterate cocksuckers blow me. You know who you are; you're the guys who have to have somebody read this to you because you can't read it yourselves.

Anyway, the last time I posted anything here was 12/20/09 , that's almost 3 weeks ago. But some of you jerkoff artists just gotta keep flogging it. It's understandable. You got no lives other than doing a little huffin' and poundin' your meat.

Flog away, laddies.

By the way, I'm was right about the paint job and I knew I was right! The paint job still looks fine, thank you. It's still perfect.

I think it's wonderful that you fucking pinheads keep on posting to this thread. It keeps you off the streets, which I know is cutting down on the GTA rate and it allows little kids to walk down the street without fear of being molested. Bravo!

So why don't you elitist, "A paint job ain't worth shit unless it costs a minimum of $3000," go fuck yourselves individually or maybe you all could meet in a hot paint booth somewhere and do each other.

Either way, have fun playing with each other's "guns." Don't forget to use Gunk when you're done.

Lastly, how many of you worthless clowns are still living at home with your mommies and daddies? I bet it's a very high percentage.

This was in another thread here but it's worth reading if you missed it. It's from the thread where a guy wanted to know if paint could make a car go faster... .

Don't listen to those other guys. They're just trying to hustle you! No paint in the world can make your car go faster.

BUT... the right kind of clear coat CAN! It's been scientifically proven!!!

If you want your car to go faster what you REALLY need is some of that special Digitally Enhanced Electronically Supercharged Tactical "TurboDynamic" Clear Coat stuff that Pure Kustoms makes in his lab.

He says he may mass market it some day, but for right now he's only selling it to all the top Nascar drivers. But don't tell anyone. This is top secret stuff. It may not even be track legal!

The way he explained it to me is all the molecules in this product are shaped like this: >><<<>><><>><<<<<<<.

But somehow, in his secret underground laboratory (which is guarded by drunk Rottweilers) he gets these special molecules to all line up with their little pointed heads facing the front of the car like this: >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

See what's happening here? The guy is a genius!!!!!! This way, the air just flows right over the molecules >>>>>>>>>>>>> reducing drag by up to 87%!

The open ends of the molecules >>>>>>>>>>>> all face the rear of the car so they don't catch any air and slow ya down.

He"ll apply it to your car for only $17,000, plus tax. It takes about 3-6 months to apply it. OK, sometimes it takes a little more time, but you'll probably get your car back in something less than a full year. Maybe.

If you want it done right, you just have to be patient.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot.

Cash. Up front. No checks. No exceptions. No discounts. No one in the lab when he makes it. No one in the shop when he shoots it. No shit.

You either trust him... or ya don't.

It's up to you.

Personally, I wouldn't trust Pure Kustoms to paint my backyard fence.

Are there requirements for coming to Tampa RACING (what an asshole you are)?

I belong to Tampa RACING because I RACE. And it's nice to talk to other RACERS about car setup and RACING in general. I wish I was cool enough to own a sweet Camry like you do. Especially yours. I want a $1000 car with a $750 paintjob. That would make me the coolest guy on the face of the planet. It would give me the right to go onto any forum I want and talk trash to everyone who has been doing this for years and actually knows what they are talking about.

... wow. It's just a Camry chill out. The fact that you spent 3 days in the shop overlooking the guys doing the work on your car, locks the insecurity you had while they working on your car. Of course someone is going to work better if you're a hawk behind them. I would've gone to a more professional place, paid a couple hundred dollars more, and not have to worry and babysit.
