My sister has a 2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo and when she is driving sometimes it will just cut off and when she pulls over to try and restart it it tries to start but occasionally it doesnt restart but will fire up with starter fluid. I had a 96 cherokee that had the same problem Id be driving and when Id come to a complete stop sometimes it would cutout and after like 20 times i realized after about exactly a half hour it would start up again it ended up being the TPS sensor that screws into the top of the transmission it maybe the same problem although I dont recall my jeep even trying to start are you on floridajeepers.net they might be able to help you
